Seeing Double: A Rare Encounter with a Duplicate Vas Deferens During Total Extraperitoneal Herniorrhaphy, a Case Report and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Asymptomatic anatomical anomalies are often found incidentally during unrelated surgical procedures. One rare congenital anomaly, with an incidence of approximately 0.05%, is duplication of the vas deferens within a single spermatic cord, typically identified during hernia repairs or various urological procedures. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 55-year-old male who underwent a total extraperitoneal laparoscopic herniorrhaphy for a right inguinal hernia. Intraoperatively, two vasa deferentia were identified traversing the deep inguinal ring adjacent to each other. The

Loss-of-function CFTR p.G970D missense mutation might cause congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens and be associated with impaired spermatogenesis.

Congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) is observed in 1%-2% of males presenting with infertility and is clearly associated with cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutations. CFTR is one of the most well-known genes related to male fertility. The frequency of CFTR mutations or impaired CFTR expression is increased in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). CFTR mutations are highly polymorphic and have established ethnic specificity. Compared with F508Del in Caucasians, the p.G970D mutation is reported to be the most frequent CFTR mutation in Chinese

CFTR mutations causing congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens (CUAVD) and congenital absence of the uterus (CAU) in a consanguineous family.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common recessive genetic diseases, with a wide spectrum of phenotypes, ranging from infertility to severe pulmonary disease. Mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene are considered the main genetic cause for CF. In this study, we recruited a consanguineous Iranian pedigree with four male patients diagnosed with congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens (CUAVD), and one female patient diagnosed with congenital absence of the uterus (CAU). Testicular biopsy of one patient was performed, and hematoxylin and eo

The CFTR gene mild variants poly-T, TG repeats and M470V detection in Indian men with congenital bilateral absence of vas deferens.

The aim of the study was to detect the frequency of the CFTR gene variants poly-T, TG repeats and c.1408A>G p.Met470Val (M470V) in Indian men with congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD). Men diagnosed with CBAVD (n = 76), their female partners (n = 76) and healthy men from general population (n = 50) were recruited. Genomic DNA was isolated and the polymorphic regions of IVS9- c.1210-12T [5] and M470V were amplified using specific primers followed by Sanger's DNA sequencing. A statistically significant increase in the frequency of heterozygous IVS9- c.1210-12T [5] (39.4%) was

Differential effects of voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels on low and high frequency mediated neurotransmission in guinea-pig ileum and rat vas deferens.

The omega-conotoxins GVIA, MVIIA, MVIIC and SVIB reduced in a concentration-dependent manner the low frequency electrically stimulated twitch response of the guinea-pig ileum and rat vas deferens. The relative activities of the conotoxins showed some difference between the two preparations in that for ileum it was MVIIA = GVIA > MVIIC = SVIB and for the vas deferens it was MVIIA > GVIA >> SVIB > MVIIC. High frequency electrical stimulation of both preparations resulted in a neurally-mediated omega-conotoxin GVIA resistant component that was sensitive to high concentrations of either omega-cono

The field-stimulated vas deferens of the streptozotocin-diabetic mouse: effects of prazosin, alpha, beta-methylene ATP, and variation of stimulation parameters.

The question of diabetic neuropathy was studied in the field-stimulated isolated vas deferens of the mouse. The animals were treated with either buffer or streptozotocin (170 mg/kg i.v.) 2 or 4 weeks, respectively, beforehand. Stimulus-response relationships were tested by variation of frequency (VF) at constant pulse width and by variation of pulse width (VP) at constant frequency. The adrenergic twitch component was eliminated by prazosin (1 microM) and the purinergic component by alpha, beta-methylene ATP (MeATP, 10 microM). The diabetes did not alter the muscular contractility (tested with

Prejunctional supersensitization of adrenergic transmission of the isolated guinea pig vas deferens produced by an atoxic fraction from scorpion venom (Tityus serrulatus).

The effects of four atoxic fractions prepared from Tityus serrulatus venom on the response of isolated guinea pig vas deferens to norepinephrine (NE) and acetylcholine (Ach) were studied. The fractions, prepared by gel filtration on Sephadex G-50, did not contain Tityustoxin (TsTX) and were used in the concentration range 20-40 micrograms/ml tissue bath. Fraction III decreased the ED50 of NE 7.1-fold (P less than 0.01) and of Ach 17.8-fold (P less than 0.01) but did not significantly modify the maximal response (MR) to either agonist. The other fractions had much less pronounced effects, if an

The expression and localization of Toll-like receptors 2, 4, 5 and 9 in the epididymis and vas deferens of a adult tom cats.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are important molecules, which provide protection against infections of the reproductive tract. This study demonstrates for the first time the expression and localization patterns of TLRs in the caput, corpus and cauda segments of the epididymal duct (ED) and the vas deferens (VD) of adult domestic cats using immunohistochemistry and western blotting. While immunoblot analyses revealed relatively similar protein levels for TLRs 2, 4, 5, and 9 in three segments of the ED, the protein levels of TLR2 and TLR4 in the VD were found to be significantly higher than those me

A novel mutation (-195C>A) in the promoter region of CFTR gene is associated with Chinese Congenital Bilateral Absence of Vas Deferens (CBAVD).

Congenital bilateral absence of vas deferens (CBAVD), a frequent cause of obstructive azoospermia and male infertility in Chinese, is mainly due to mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. This study aim to explore the promoter region of CFTR gene in CBAVD patients and study the mutations by functional analysis, and to discuss the significance of mutation testing in this area. We performed screening analysis on 65 CBAVD patients and 50 controls to detect mutations in the CFTR gene, and studied the functions of promoter mutations using reporter gene cons

A 20-cm redundant vas deferens loop during late orchidopexy: aberrant ductal anatomy as an intraoperative pitfall in a 17-year-old male.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Cryptorchidism is one of the most common congenital anomalies of the male genitourinary tract. Anatomical variations of the spermatic cord structures, though underreported, may increase the risk of iatrogenic injury during orchidopexy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-year-old male presented with lifelong unilateral cryptorchidism. Preoperative ultrasonography localized the testis in a high inguinal position with preserved vascular flow. Given the patient's informed refusal of orchiectomy despite counseling on malignancy risk, elective orchidopexy was performed. During sur

Prenatal initiation of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor via carrier mother prevents congenital bilateral absence of vas deferens in a male infant with cystic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal therapy with elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) has recently emerged as a potential strategy to modify the early natural history of cystic fibrosis (CF). While case reports have described prevention of meconium ileus and pancreatic insufficiency, data on male reproductive outcomes remain extremely limited. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a male infant with CF (homozygous F508del) whose heterozygous carrier mother initiated ETI at 27+4 weeks of gestation after prenatal diagnosis. Pregnancy was uneventful until preterm delivery at 35+2 weeks. The neonate presented with nor

Congenital absence of vas deferens: Anatomical and embryological inputs from a series of autopsies reported in Europe throughout the 18th and 19th century.

Congenital absence of the vas deferens (CAVD) is a syndrome with a heterogeneous presentation: bilateral (CBAVD) or unilateral (CUAVD), complete or partial and associated or not with other anomalies of the male urogenital system. A turning point came in 1968 when CBAVD was associated with cystic fibrosis and its CFTR gene mutations. Genetic studies then revealed that a minority of CBAVD but a majority of CUAVD are CFTR-independent. In the literature, reference is classically made to two sources from the 18th and 19th century: Hunter and Reverdin. This scarcity prompted us to look for additiona

Incidental finding of a congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens during robotic inguinal hernia repair: missing a crucial landmark. A case report.

INTRODUCTION: We report on a case of congenital unilateral atresia of the vas deferens encountered during a robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair. CASE REPORT: Our 65-years-old male patient was scheduled for a bilateral robotic-assisted TAPP inguinal hernia repair because of bilateral symptomatic groin hernia. Standard intraoperative dissection obtaining a critical view of the myopectineal orifice did not allow for an identification of the vas deferens (VD) on the left side. On the right side, a normal VD was identified. There was no suspicion of an intra
