Suboptimal adherence to brain health recommendations in patients pursuing anti-amyloid antibody therapy for Alzheimer's disease: Report from the Brain Health Vital Signs project.

BACKGROUND: Consensus is consolidating around a set of lifestyle and medical factors that can promote brain health and reduce the risk of dementia for older adults and further decline for those with early Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related disorders. Little is known about the degree to which recommended brain-healthy behaviors have been adopted by patients with early AD pursuing anti-amyloid antibody therapy (AAT), a proactive group interested in doing what is under their control to help preserve cognitive and functional status. Here, initial results of a clinically relevant quality improvem

Predicting in-hospital mortality in children in low- and middle-income countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis of vital signs and anthropometric measurements.

BACKGROUND: In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), child mortality rates remain substantially higher compared to high-income countries, with many deaths preventable through early recognition of deterioration. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated predictive values of vital signs and anthropometric measurements for paediatric in-hospital mortality in LMICs. METHODS: A search of publicly available data in PubMed and OVID Embase was conducted in November 2021 and last updated in March 2025. Studies that reported on oxygen saturation; respiratory rate; heart rate; blood pres…

A Novel Therapeutic Approach With Sodium Pyruvate on Vital Signs, Acid-Base, and Metabolic Disturbances in Rats With a Combined Blast and Hemorrhagic Shock.

BACKGROUND: Blast injuries from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are known to cause blast traumatic brain injuries (bTBIs), hemorrhagic shock (HS), organ damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and subsequent free radical production. A pre-citric acid cycle reagent, pyruvate, is suggested to improve mitochondrial ATP production through the activation of the mitochondrial gatekeeper enzyme "pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDH)." Our study aimed to investigate the role of physiologic, metabolic, and mitochondrial effects of hypertonic sodium pyruvate resuscitation in rats with a combined blast and

A Multimodal Closed-Loop Framework for Vital Sign Monitoring and Intelligent Diagnosis of Amusement Ride Passengers Under High-Dynamic Motion.

High-dynamic amusement ride conditions involving impacts, rapid rotations, and abrupt posture changes introduce severe motion artifacts that degrade vital sign quality and destabilize physiological state recognition. This study aims to develop an engineering-ready closed-loop framework for robust passenger monitoring and intelligent diagnosis. A multimodal sensing and modeling pipeline was designed to jointly leverage physiological signals such as heart rate and SpO2 and kinematic measurements, including acceleration, angular rate, velocity, and attitude. Inertial and PPG signals were preproce

Calculation of a Primary Immunodeficiency "Risk Vital Sign" via Population-Wide Analysis of Claims Data to Aid in Clinical Decision Support.

Background: Early diagnosis of primary immunodeficiency disease leads to reductions in illness and decreased healthcare costs. Analysis of electronic health record data may allow for identification of persons at risk of host-defense impairments from within the general population. Our hypothesis was that coded infection history would inform individual risk of disease and ultimately lead to diagnosis. Methods: In this study we assessed individual risk for primary immunodeficiency by analyzing diagnostic codes and pharmacy records from members (n = 185,892) of a large pediatric health network. Re

Noncontact Visualization of Respiration and Vital Sign Monitoring Using a Single Mid-Wave Infrared Thermal Camera: Preliminary Proof-of-Concept.

Infrared thermal cameras can noninvasively measure the surface temperatures of objects and are widely used as fever-screening systems for infectious diseases. However, body temperature measurements alone are often insufficient for identifying people with infections. To address the inherent limitations of fever-based screening, this study aimed to develop analytical methods that enable multi-vital sensing alongside body temperature measurement using a single mid-wave infrared (MWIR) camera. Respiratory parameters were assessed by visualizing exhaled airflow based on MWIR absorption by carbon di
