Osteoporotic vertebral fractures (VFs) are the most common type of osteoporotic fracture. Patients with VF are at increased risk of hip fractures or additional VFs, both of which contribute to patient morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis of VFs is essential so patients can be prescribed appropriate medical therapy. Most patients with clinical suspicion for VF have an X-ray of the spine. Many VFs are invisible on X-ray and require further imaging. CT can provide excellent bony detail but uses high doses of ionising radiation. The cancer incidence was studied in 18,030 patients (33% males, 67% females) with skin hemangioma who were admitted to Radiumhemmet, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, 1920-1959. Recent advances in technology have lead to the development of a high-definition microfocal X-ray unit allowing macroradiographic examination of different parts of the body at x 5 to x 10 magnification and with a high spatial resolution. Its applications in the study of a number of arthritides, metabolic and some other bone diseases are described in terms of early detection of diagnostic features. We evaluated eight cases of pulmonary mycosis in immuno compromised hosts. The underlying diseases were lung cancer with chemotherapy in one case, post bone marrow transplantation (post BMT) in two cases, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in one case and bronchial asthma with massive steroid therapy in four cases.
