Voxel Based Morphometry Alterations in Mal de Debarquement Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS) is a disorder of chronic self-motion perception that occurs though entrainment to rhythmic background motion, such as from sea voyage, and involves the perception of low-frequency rocking that can last for months or years. The neural basis of this persistent sensory perception abnormality is not well understood. METHODS: We investigated grey matter volume differences underlying persistent MdDS by performing voxel-based morphometry on whole brain and pre-specified ROIs in 28 individuals with MdDS and comparing them to 18 age, sex, and handedness

Feasibility and effectiveness study of applying a hallucinogen harm reduction and integration model to a mindfulness thinking intervention using virtual reality: A randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a virtual reality (VR) program designed and developed based on the hallucino … resence than traditional natural space scenes. Furthermore, it does not bring any intense simulator motion sickness symptoms. These findings suggest that VR programs developed based on PHRI have a more positive facilitation effect on the positive state and that this increase lasts longer than conventional VR-positive programs.

Partial arthroscopic trapeziectomy and stabilisation by ligamentoplasty: Outcomes in patients younger than 60years.

BACKGROUND: Thumb carpometacarpal joint (TCMJ) osteoarthritis is the fourth leading cause of referral to elective hand surgery. None of the available techniques has proved superior over the others. Some techniques carry unacceptable risks for younger patients, such as loss of strength and shortening of the thumb column after total trapeziectomy, or wear and loosening after total arthroplasty. Our objective was to assess outcomes after partial arthroscopic trapeziectomy (PAT) combined with suspensionplasty using the abductor pollicis longus (APL) tendon in patients younger than 60years of age.

Evaluation of surgical treatment for ruptured Achilles tendon in 31 athletes.

INTRODUCTION: In the past few decades, the incidence of Achilles tendon rupture has increased in parallel with increased sports participation. Although the optimal treatment remains controversial, there is a trend towards surgical treatment in athletes. HYPOTHESIS: Surgical repair of ruptured Achilles tendon in athlete results in good functional and objective recovery, irrespective of the type of surgery performed. Subsidiarily, are the results different between percutaneous surgery (PS) and standard open surgery (OS)? MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of 31 patients wh

The emetic and anti-emetic effects of the capsaicin analogue resiniferatoxin in Suncus murinus, the house musk shrew.

1. In SUNCUS: murinus the ultrapotent capsaicin analogue resiniferatoxin (RTX) induced an emetic response in the dose range 1 - 1000 microg kg(-1), s.c. The latency was inversely related to dose and ranged from 41.2+/-4.4 min. (1 microg kg(-1), s.c.) to 2.7+/-0.6 min. (1000 microg kg(-1), s.c.). 2. The emetic response to RTX (10 or 100 microg kg(-1), s.c.) was blocked or markedly reduced by pre-treatment with RTX (100 microg kg(-1), s.c.), 8-OH-DPAT (100 microg kg(-1), s.c.), morphine (2 mg kg(-1), s.c.), neonatal capsaicin (100 mg kg(-1), s.c.) and the NK(1) receptor antagonist CP-99,994 (10

[Unique structure of the esophago-gastric junction of the house musk shrew (Suncus murinus)].

The house musk shrew (Suncus murinus) belongs to the Order Insectivora, and has been used for the research in comparative anatomy as one of the most primitive placental mammals. Another feature of this shrew is its ability to easily vomit which mimics the human emesis or motion sickness response. The house musk shrew has thus been utilized as a rare small experimental animal for studies on the neurophysiological mechanism of vomiting. However, there is no report investigating the morphological background of vomiting in this species. The purpose of this study is to provide detailed morphologica…
