Reversible double water in oil in water (W/O/W) emulsions were developed to contain subsurface hydrocarbon spills during their remediation using surfactant flushing. Double emulsions were prepared by emulsifying CaCl2 solutions in canola oil, and subsequently by emulsifying the W/O emulsions in aqueous sodium alginate solutions. AIM: To evaluate the accuracy of the Root ZX (J Morita Corp., Kyoto, Japan) and Tri Auto ZX (J Morita Corp.) devices for measuring root canal length in primary teeth with and without apical resorption.
METHODOLOGY: Thirty-four extracted human primary molar teeth with resorption and 19 primary teeth without resorption were collected. After endodontic access preparation, the actual lengths of the teeth were determined. The teeth were then embedded in an alginate model to determine the electronic working length measurement. OBJECTIVE: To determine the in vitro effects of several nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs on the IL-1 altered expression and activity of tPA, uPA and PAI-1 by articular chondrocytes.
METHODS: Bovine chondrocytes were cultured in alginate gel beads. Cells were treated with IL-1alpha in the presence or absence of drugs at various concentrations. Expression of mRNA for the plasminogen activators (uPA and tPA) and their inhibitor (PAI-1) were analyzed by RT-PCR-ELISA. The protein content of PAI-1 in culture media was deter mined by ELISA. PA activity was measured by a functional assay.
