Naturally processed peptides from immunoaffinity-purified HLA-DRB1*0401, -DRB1*0404 (rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-associated), and -DRB1*0402 (non-RA-associated) molecules were analyzed by capillary liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. In Trichinella spiralis-infected rats, a population of cells in thoracic duct lymph (TDL) that can adoptively transfer protection to naive rats was identified and characterized. During the course of T. spiralis infection, blast cells appeared in lymph from Day 3-4, and only Day 3-4 TDL cells had protective properties after transfer. Persistence of giardiasis after some of the recommended drugs is occurring with increasing frequency. We describe the follow-up of four members of a family with giardiasis through microscopic observation, immunochromatography and PCRs of tpi and β-giardin genes. Three patients did not respond to tinidazole but they were cured after quinacrine. However, PCR became negative at 2 months after negativization of stools in two patients and after 1 year in one patient.
