BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease characterized by the dysregulation of multiple cytokines. In RA, Interleukin (IL)-4 levels fluctuate throughout disease progression, exerting a pathogenic role at onset and an anti-inflammatory role in later stages. Evidence suggests that IL-4 levels also differ between sexes and may be associated with disease severity. Urea cycle disorders and other hyperammonemic syndromes should be considered in the differential diagnosis in newborns with a history of severe vomiting, lethargy, and seizures, and in infants with feeding problems, episodic vomiting, and altered consciousness. Although the acute neonatal forms of urea cycle disorders are almost always lethal, several of the subacute forms of hyperammonemic syndromes respond favorably to early treatment.

We characterized enzymatic activity of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the central nervous system of Aplysia californica, a popular experimental model in cellular and system neuroscience, and provided biochemical evidence for NO-cGMP signaling in molluscs.
