Cerebro-costo-mandibular syndrome (CCMS) is a rare hereditary disorder characterized by micrognathia, posterior rib gaps, and secondary developmental delay. Patients often require ventilation and feeding support throughout life. We describe the first reported ophthalmic findings of CCMS and propose that defects in choroidal permeability lead to chronic macular edema and refractory aqueous misdirection syndrome. Here we discuss the medical and surgical management concerns of recurrent angle closure and raised intraocular pressure in a CCMS patient.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
METHODS: Infants with a gestational age of ≤32 week were screened for ROP. Complete blood cell, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and interleukin 6 levels of subjects were measured within the first 24 hours of life. The NLR was calculated by dividing neutrophil count by lymphocyte count. The association between other risk factors and the development of ROP were analyzed using univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis.

A middle-aged diabetic and hypertensive man presented with diminished vision in the left eye. Fundus examination revealed prepapillary arterial loops, but with features of venous rather than arterial occlusion. Fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography confirmed the presence of a branch retinal vein occlusion along with two branch retinal artery occlusions. The resultant macular edema responded well to intravitreal triamcinolone and laser photocoagulation though the visual improvement was moderate.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of 25 gauge pars-plana vitrectomy (25G-PPV), after a careful patient selection, when we find highly annoying vitreous floaters and to question if this is an ethical therapeutic option.
METHODS: A retrospective study of eight eyes (seven patients) aged 58+/-14 years old (range 42-78) high myopes and pseudophakes who underwent 25G-PPV. Clinical data and visual acuity were studied at six to twelve months follow-up.
