Gene expression analysis reveals mir-29 as a linker regulatory molecule among rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and dementia: Insights from systems biology approach.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a degenerative autoimmune disease, often managed through symptomatic treatment. The co-occurrence of the reported extra-articular comorbidities such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and dementia may complicate the pathology of the disease as well as the treatment strategies. Therefore, in our study, we aim to elucidate the key genes, and regulatory elements implicated in the progression and association of these diseases, thereby highlighting the linked potential therapeutic targets. METHODOLOGY: Ten microarray datasets each for RA, and IBD, and nin

A Sister Mary Joseph's nodule in fallopian tube cancer: exploring the metastatic pathway through gene expression profiling-a case report.

BACKGROUND: A Sister Mary Joseph's nodule is an umbilical metastasis from an intra-abdominal or pelvic malignancy, associated with a poor prognosis. Three possible metastatic pathways for Sister Mary Joseph's nodule have been postulated: hematogenous spread, lymphatic dissemination, and direct invasion. However, detailed analyses of these metastatic pathways, particularly those involving gene expression profiling, are lacking in literature. We investigated the metastatic patterns of Sister Mary Joseph's nodule by performing RNA microarray analysis of the primary tumor and each metastatic site …

Intercellular communication analysis of the human retinal pigment epithelial and choroidal cells predicts pathways associated with aging, cellular senescence and age-related macular degeneration.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the choroid are ocular tissues with fundamental roles in supporting neuroretinal function. The pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of irreversible blindness for which aging is the highest risk factor is closely linked with progressive impairment of various functions of these tissues. Cellular senescence, marked by cell cycle arrest and secretion of proinflammatory factors, is known to be associated with aging and has been proposed as a potential driver of AMD. Here, we investigated the role played by intercellular com

Transcriptomic Analysis Reveals That Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor Trigger a Novel Signaling Pathway (TAF9-P53-TRIAP1-CASP3) to Protect Retinal Ganglion Cells after Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.

Optic nerve head (ONH) infarct can result in progressive retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death. The granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF) protects the RGC after ON infarct. However, protective mechanisms of the GCSF after ONH infarct are complex and remain unclear. To investigate the complex mechanisms involved, the transcriptome profiles of the GCSF-treated retinas were examined using microarray technology. The retinal mRNA samples on days 3 and 7 post rat anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (rAION) were analyzed by microarray and bioinformatics analyses. GCSF treatment influenced 3101 gene

Effects of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Gene Expressions of Mouse Meibomian Glands.

Purpose: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major health problem and its ocular complications like orbital infections, cataract and diabetic retinopathy cause blindness. Meibomian gland (MG) dysfunction and dry eye disease are also important ocular complications of type 2 DM but not enough research has been conducted on these complications. Our hypothesis suggests type 2 DM can alter significant gene expressions of MG. In our study, MGs of leptin-deficient spontaneous diabetic and non-diabetic mice were extracted, and gene expression profiles were analyzed with microarray technology. Methods: M

Screening and identification of potential novel biomarker for diagnosis of complicated Plasmodium vivax malaria.

BACKGROUND: In the recent years Plasmodium vivax has been reported to cause severe infections associated with mortality. Clinical evaluation has limited accuracy for the early identification of the patients progressing towards the fatal condition. Researchers have tried to identify the serum and the plasma-based indicators of the severe malaria. Discovery of MicroRNA (miRNA) has opened up an era of identification of early biomarkers for various infectious and non-infectious diseases. MicroRNAs (miRNA) are the small non-coding RNA molecules of length 19-24 nts and are responsible for the regula
