UNLABELLED: This is the first case reported in the literature of regional tamponade physiology following chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of the right coronary artery (RCA) with compression of the right sided chambers that was managed percutaneously with computerized tomographic (CT) guided drainage. This case report highlights the heightened index of suspicion needed to make the diagnosis; the often nondiagnostic nature of the surface echocardiogram and the need for cross specialty collaboration to treat this entity successfully.
KEY WORDS: Coronary Aneu

PURPOSE: Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction offers good clinical results with a very low rate of instability recurrence. However, its in vivo effect on patellar tracking is not clearly known. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of MPFL reconstruction on patellar tracking using dynamic 320-detector-row CT.
METHODS: Ten patients with patellofemoral instability referred to isolated MPFL reconstruction surgery were selected and subjected to dynamic CT before and ≥6 months after surgery. Patellar tilt angles and shift distance were analysed using computer software

The case of a 32-year-old woman who sustained a nasal bone fracture and dental trauma at the age of 9 is described in this article. Misdiagnosis of the dental displacement into the middle turbinate at the initial examination led to chronic facial pain. The cause of the pain was incorrectly diagnosed or misinterpreted by several medical specialists, including an otolaryngologist, neurologist, physiatrist, ophthalmologist, internist, radiologist, oral surgeon, dentist, and the patient's family physician. Finally, 23 years after the dental trauma, a multislice computed tomogram revealed that the

OBJECTIVE: Existing data are very limited on incidentally detected pulmonary nodules or mediastinal lymph nodes in healthy children who undergo chest MDCT. We aimed to evaluate the prevalence, distribution, and average dimensions of these occasional findings in a cohort of otherwise healthy patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two radiologists reviewed in consensus the scans of patients referred for chest MDCT during the preoperative workup for pectus carinatum or pectus excavatum treatments. Exclusion criteria included the presence of any documented malignancy (by date of MDCT or during the 2 ye

BACKGROUND: Although tracheal stenosis occurs in relapsing polychondritis (RP), no studies exist that have clarified correlations between quantitative airway measurement and spirometry in RP patients.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate correlations between the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the trachea and spirometric values in patients with RP.
METHODS: The institutional review board approved this retrospective study, and written informed consent was waived. Twenty-six patients with RP underwent spirometry and chest computed tomography (CT) at full inspiration and end-expir

The aim of the study was to assess the feasibility of high-resolution three-dimensional diffusion-weighted images (HR3D-DWIs)/multi-detector row CT (MDCT) images' data fusion for surgical planning for cholesteatoma. A total of 12 patients (7 male and 5 female; age range 11-72 years; mean 38.1 years) with cholesteatoma underwent preoperative MRI using a 3.0-T clinical unit and an 8-channel array-head coil. For each subject, HR3D-DWIs were obtained using a turbo field-echo with diffusion-sensitized driven-equilibrium preparation with 1.5 mm iso-voxel dimension. These patients also underwent MDCT

The aim of this study was to determine various imaging features of intraosseous meningiomas (IOMs) and differentiate low-grade from high-grade tumors. The histopathologic evaluation revealed World Health Organization (WHO) grade I tumor in 56 (86%) patients, grade II in 8 (12%), and grade III in 1 (2%) patient. WHO grade I was considered low grade and II and III were designated as high grade. Hyperostosis was observed most commonly in low-grade IOMs. Mixed hyperostotic/lytic pattern with radial bony spiculations and presence of a scalp mass seem to be more frequently associated with higher-gra

OBJECTIVES: To assess the potential risk factors of re-intervention after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR).
BACKGROUND: TEVAR has been chosen as a less invasive alternative for Type B aortic dissections (TBADs); however, the potential risk factors of re-intervention remain unclear.
METHODS: A total of 252 TBADs patients initially treated with TEVAR between September 1998 and July 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. The indications for the initial TEVAR were 32 aorta enlargement (24 chronic), 71 malperfusion, 46 rupture (32 chronic), 67 refractory pain (54 chronic), and 44 refracto

BACKGROUND: Anomalous origination of a coronary artery from an opposite sinus of Valsalva (ACAOS) is a rare finding that is typically found on autopsy in a person with sudden cardiac death or during routine cardiovascular testing. The true prevalence is unknown for this reason. There is also question to the specific anatomy of the anomalies themselves and how best to correct them.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of all coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) studies to evaluate the incidence of all-cause mortality, nonfatal myocardial infarction, stroke and late rev

BACKGROUND: Ectopic fat density is associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors above and beyond fat volume. Volumetric measures of ectopic fat have been associated with CVD risk factors and subclinical atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between fat density and subclinical atherosclerosis.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Participants were drawn from the Multi-Detector Computed Tomography (MDCT) substudy of the Framingham Heart Study (n=3079; mean age, 50.1 years; 49.2% women). Fat density was indirectly estimated by computed tomography attenuation (Hou

Although rare, major congenital defects of the hepatic veins are detectable at autopsy, advanced, noninvasive imaging techniques such as Doppler ultrasonography and multislice computed tomography can accurately define these anomalies. One of these anomalies is congenital absence of the main right hepatic vein. We present a 21-year-old woman living-liver donor candidate with congenital absence of the right hepatic vein who underwent an extended right donor hepatectomy. She was tested for transplant compatibility with her 45-year-old brother, who had chronic liver failure secondary to hepatitis

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to determine the differences in the diameter of the thoracic aorta when measured from electrocardiographic (ECG)-gated and nongated computed tomography (CT) angiography. Another aim was to define the difference in the aortic diameter when it is measured at peak systole and end diastole in ECG-gated scans.
METHODS: The gated and nongated CT angiograms of 27 patients (mean age, 58 ± 16 standard deviation [SD] years) obtained on a 256-slice multidetector CT scanner were used. The transverse and anteroposterior diameters and the lumen areas were measured at 1,

In this study, high-resolution, multislice computed tomography findings are compared with surgical findings in terms of the fracture location in patients with traumatic facial paralysis. Patients with traumatic facial paralysis with grade VI House-Brackmann scale who met the criteria for surgical decompression between 2008 and 2012 were included in this study. All the patients underwent a multislice high-resolution, multislice computed tomography (HRCT) using 1-mm-thick slices with a bone window algorithm. The anatomical areas of the temporal bone (including the Fallopian canal) were assessed
