BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneoscopic pancreatectomy (RP) is a novel surgical procedure that is safe and feasible in animal models and clinical practice. However, the optimal approach for RP has not been established.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to introduce the posterior and lateral approaches for RP.
METHODS: This prospective study included 19 patients with suspected pancreatic lesions who underwent RP. RP was performed using either a posterior or a lateral approach.
RESULTS: The posterior, lateral, and jointed approaches were used in 13 (68.4 %), 3 (15.8 %), and 3 (15.8 %) cases, respectively.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The incidence of primary extrahepatic cystic echinococcosis (CE) is rare. Generally, radiological and serological findings can help establish the diagnosis of hepatic and pulmonary CE, but a CE in an unusual location with atypical radiological findings may complicate the differential diagnosis. RECENT FINDINGS: Genomic studies continue to investigate gene expression as possible markers for disease relapse and chemotherapy resistance. Optimal treatment strategies for early-stage seminomas are evolving toward surveillance versus chemotherapy and away from radiation, and the role of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in disseminated nonseminomatous cancers in complete remission is becoming less certain.

BACKGROUND: Lesions of the intra-abdominal organs and vessels caused by trocars and Verres needles are rare but serious complications during laparoscopic surgery.
REPORT: We report an unusual case of left common iliac artery and inferior vena cava injury during laparoscopy. This lesion was followed by a bilateral postischemic compartment syndrome of the lower extremities.
