In recent years, general and urinary tract infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have became an increasing problem worldwide. Catheterization of the urinary bladder is one of the most significant risk factors for MRSA contamination of the urine. In vitro tests have documented the antimicrobial activity of the catheter lubricants Instillagel and Endosgel against MRSA specimens within 5 min. These findings support recommending the use of these lubricants in high-risk patients in hospitals and old people's homes for prophylaxis of MRSA bacteriuria.

BACKGROUND: Unfavorable conditions at the soft tissues adjacent to a recession defect may preclude performing pedicle flaps (advanced or rotational) both as a root coverage procedure, and as a covering flap for a connective tissue graft. The management of periodontal diseases has included both non-surgical and surgical treatment options. Non-surgical treatment traditionally has referred to the role of mechanical instrumentation of the root surface with either scalers or curettes. However, the introduction of locally delivered anti-microbial medications, which can be placed directly into a periodontal pocket, has provided the practitioner with another treatment option.
