We report on the clinical evolution of the Brazilian family with Ramon syndrome described by de Pina-Neto et al. [1986, Am J Med Genet 25:441-443]. Three members (patients IV-2, IV-18, and IV-19) have developed pigmentary changes in the retina and paleness of the optic disk. The term "inflammatory myofibrohistiocytic proliferation" (IMP) has been proposed to replace the conventional designations of plasma cell granuloma and inflammatory pseudotumor. Three cases of extrapulmonary IMP in children are reported, including an intracerebral lesion which has been formerly undescribed. In children, IMP may be associated with microcytic hypochromic anemia, hypergammaglobulinemia, and high erythrocyte sedimentation rate. In this clinical setting, differentiation of a rapidly growing but benign IMP from a bona fide sarcoma is of paramount importance.

On the basis of 324 cases of maxillary tumours, the authors review the classification of these neoplasms. The most frequent tumours are benign epithelial odontogenic tumours, which represent 55% of all tumours. The most common of these tumours is the ameloblastoma, followed by the odontomas. Most of the tumours of non-dental origin are benign (72% of this group). Amongst the malignant tumours, osteosarcomas are much more common than chondrosarcomas. The authors also discuss the various types of cyst and their respective relative frequency.

During the 15 years since the author's 1970 paper on fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws, the subject has continued to interest the clinician and pathologist. Several new entities have been delineated during this period, and new concepts and controversies regarding the diagnosis and management of these lesions have arisen. A classification of fibro-osseous jaw lesions that the author has found to be workable is presented, and criteria for their diagnosis and management based on the authors' experience is discussed.

The clinical, microscopic, and gross features of 36 cases of benign granular cell tumor arising in the larynx are reviewed and studied. This infrequent lesion, when in the larynx, is found most commonly on the true vocal cord in adults in their third, fourth, and fifth decades; there is no obvious sex predilection. The classification of undifferentiated soft tissue tumors continues to evolve with the expanded application of molecular analysis in clinical practice. We report three cases of a unique soft tissue tumor in young children (5 months to 2 years old) displaying a purely fibromyxoid histology, with positive staining for desmin and CD34. In two cases, RNA sequencing detected a YWHAZ-PLAG1 gene fusion, while in the third case, a previously unreported EEF1A1-PLAG1 fusion was identified. Benign intratesticular spindle cell lesions are rare. Herein, we report the morphology, immunohistochemical characteristics, and prognosis of 16 cases of testicular fibrothecoma. The mean age at diagnosis was 44 years (16 to 69 y). Of 15 patients with information, 14 presented with a palpable testicular mass and 1 with heaviness in the scrotum. Medical histories included bilateral orchidopexy as a child (n=1) and testicular atrophy receiving testosterone replacement (n=1). The average size was 1.8 cm (median 2 cm; range, 0.5 to 7.6 cm). Mucocutaneous papillomas can be manifestations of an autosomal dominant condition known as Cowden syndrome (CS). We report the case of a 22-year-old man with oral and cutaneous papules and a past history of thyroid malignancy. It is important to recognize oral manifestations of CS; they can lead to early diagnosis of the condition.

A 28-year-old man presented with a lipofibroma of the median nerve of the left hand. We released the carpal tunnel, did a neurolysis, and biopsied of the median nerve together with a distal fasciotomy of the forearm. Two years after the operation, the paraesthesiae of the middle finger had improved but was still present to a lesser degree. Initial considerations about treatment should be directed toward biopsy and alleviation of the compression neuropathy, rather than total excision.

Finger lesions are a frequent problem because of their functional significance and their small size. Because of this, the radiologist has an important role to play in the correct presurgical diagnosis. The aim of this article is to describe the anatomy and the characteristic US and MR findings of the most common tumor and tumor-like lesions of the fingers, and to discuss the differential diagnosis in cases of unspecific or non-diagnostic findings. We present representative cases selected from 62 patients evaluated at our institution, with pathologic correlation.

A 54-year-old woman who had symptoms of intermittent meningeal irritation and hypopituitarism was found to have a sellar mass histologically consistent with pseudotumor. The lesion appears to have originated in the sphenoid sinus and subsequently to have spread intracranially, causing bony erosion. To our knowledge, this is the first description of pseudotumor occurring as a sellar mass.

Epidural venography is a simple and safe procedure for the diagnosis of herniated intervertebral disc and other disease of the epidural space. It is especially useful in symptomatic patients with normal or equivocal myelographic findings. The accuracy rate of positive venograms is 88.2% in this series of 58 patients.
