The use of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has grown exponentially in the biomedical field in recent decades because of its outstanding biomechanical properties. However, its lack of bioactivity/osteointegration remains an unresolved issue toward its wide use in orthopedic applications. PURPOSE: Anorganic bovine hydroxyapatite matrix (ABM), when coupled with synthetic cell-binding peptide (P15), mimics the cell-binding region of type 1 collagen and is commercially available suspended in a sodium hyaluronate carrier.
