The psychopathological and somatic symptoms documented by the AMDP-system on the admission of 1654 patients to the Psychiatric Clinics of the Universities in München und 659 patients in Berlin were factor analyzed. This paper demonstrates an application of Cost-Benefit Analysis as an aid in capital investment medical decision making. Specifically, a cost-benefit analysis is used to compare three nuclear cardiology instruments (i.e. Nuclear Stethoscope, Mobile Camera/Computer and Fixed Cardiac Computer). The intercorrelations of five different factor-analytically derived syndrome solutions of the AMP-system were computed. With the incidence of AIDS being on the rise, diagnostic work-up of hepatobiliary disease in these patients is of increasing interest. 57 x-ray cholangiograms and computed tomographic studies of 13 AIDS-patients with clinical signs of cholangitis were reviewed. Nine patients had abnormal cholangiographic findings. Computed tomography of 8 patients revealed hepatobiliary disease in six cases. Of three patients with cholangiograms reflecting bile duct dilatation of neoplastic aetiology, CT was required in two for definite diagnosis. We present a case in which intraocular silicone injection for complex retinal detachment resulted in migration and distribution of silicone along the intracranial visual pathway, and ultimately throughout the ventricular system. Misinterpretation of this material as intracranial hemorrhage on outside computed tomography imaging delayed emergent repair of a Type A aortic dissection until the diagnosis was made on repeat imaging. A discussion of this case and salient computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of silicone is provided.

Impaired formation of the biliary network can lead to congenital cholestatic liver diseases; however, the genes responsible for proper biliary system formation and maintenance have not been fully identified. Combining computational network structure analysis algorithms with a zebrafish forward genetic screen, we identified 24 new zebrafish mutants that display impaired intrahepatic biliary network formation. Complementation tests suggested these 24 mutations affect 24 different genes. We applied unsupervised clustering algorithms to unbiasedly classify the recovered mutants into three classes.
