Quantifying heartbeat micro-fragmentations post-myocardial infarction using wavelet entropy and complexity.

Wavelet-based entropy and statistical complexity can quantify subtle alterations in the multiscale organization of ventricular depolarization that are not necessarily apparent during standard electrocardiographic inspection. This study evaluates the transferability, robustness, and methodological sensitivity of these descriptors in a large two-database post-myocardial-infarction setting. We analyzed 12-lead ECG records from the PTB Diagnostic Electrocardiogram Database and PTB-XL. A predefined analysis cohort contained 5,887 control (CTRL), 118 early/healing post-infarction (MI7), and 294 heal

DSLHash: Lightweight Hash Function Based on SVSC 4D Chaotic System and Dynamic Substitution Layers.

Data integrity remains a critical requirement for secure communication in IoT environments. To address this challenge for resource-constrained IoT devices, lightweight cryptographic hash functions have been widely studied. However, static substitution layers in conventional hash functions might be vulnerable to advanced cryptanalysis. Dynamic substitution layers are constructed by exploring several methods such as key dependency, chaotic maps, DNA computations, and elliptic curves. Despite these efforts, existing dynamic substitution layers are not suitable for resource-efficient implementatio

Strain tailored electronic and optical properties of AEMTe compounds.

The need to develop high-performance optoelectronic and semiconductor materials drives the search for new materials with tunable electronic and optical properties. The alkaline earth metal tellurides (AEMTe, where AEM = Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba) are particularly appealing among the group II-VI binary semiconductors because of their unique electrical structures and potential for band gap engineering. This study employs a thorough DFT-based methodology to examine the structural and optical characteristics of these structures. To guarantee high-fidelity findings, we combined scalar-relativistic ONC

Recognition of a Critical Functional Domain and Improved PHOX2B Missense Variant Interpretation by Utilization of In Silico Prediction Tools.

Pathogenic heterozygous variants in PHOX2B are associated with congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS), which is characterized by autonomic nervous system dysregulation severely affecting respiratory control. The interpretation of PHOX2B missense variation is challenging due to their rarity and the lack of available functional evidence. Consequently, most PHOX2B missense variants are classified as variants of uncertain significance (VUSs), complicating the timely diagnosis and clinical management of the condition. To generate an improved model for assessments of PHOX2B missense vari

Specific PET Imaging for Precision Management of Lung Cancer: Advances, Clinical Translation and Future Directions.

Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, primarily due to persistent challenges in early detection and the limited effectiveness of precision medicine. Although low-dose computed tomography (CT) has been widely implemented for lung cancer screening and has contributed to a measurable reduction in disease-specific mortality, its diagnostic accuracy is limited by its inability to reliably distinguish benign from malignant pulmonary nodules. Furthermore, the clinical standard for metabolic imaging18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomograp

Comparative Study of Antemortem Computed Tomography (CT) Findings With Autopsy Findings in Head Injury Cases.

INTRODUCTION: Head injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and accurate assessment of traumatic head injuries is important for both clinical management and medicolegal investigations. Computed tomography (CT) is routinely used for the evaluation of head injuries in living patients, whereas medicolegal autopsy remains the standard method for postmortem assessment. This prospective comparative observational study was conducted to compare antemortem CT scan findings with autopsy findings in fatal head injury cases. METHODOLOGY: A total of 34 cases that underwent both antemo

Off-the-ball behaviors in elite football using spatiotemporal tracking data: a scoping review.

Off-the-ball behaviors are central to tactical and technical performance in professional football, shaping individual and collective movements supporting coordinated play. Although spatiotemporal tracking data has made these dynamics observable, the literature remains fragmented, with inconsistent definitions and narrow analytical approaches. This scoping review summarizes how off-the-ball behaviors have been examined through tracking data and highlights computational methods and limitations.Following PRISMA-ScR, a systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and SportDisc

Guidelines for the prevention and management of mother-to-child transmission of tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis (TB) during pregnancy poses substantial risks to both the mother and the fetus/infant. Protecting maternal and child health and interrupting mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) are therefore critical components of TB control. However, the evidence base remains limited, and practical guidance across the preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and neonatal periods is still fragmented. To address this gap, a multidisciplinary panel of experts in TB, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, infectious diseases, imaging, and disease control and prevention was convened. This panel developed

BRIDGING COTYLEDON PATHOLOGY AND PERFUSION IN HEALTHY PRIMATE PREGNANCY.

INTRODUCTION: Healthy and diseased placentae alike often display some degree of pathology. However, quantitative techniques to characterize common pathologies and their relationship to local maternal hemodynamics in healthy primate placentae are currently limited. METHODS: Placentae from seven rhesus macaques were imaged by MRI at three time points across mid- to late-gestation, to quantify placental blood volume, flow, and perfusion from maternal spiral arteries across pregnancy. Near term, we collected placental cotyledons, digitized hematoxylin/eosin-stained slides, then segmented and anno

A graph retrieval-augmented generation pipeline for systematic drug target discovery: validation and application to ocular neovascularization.

The exponential growth of biomedical literature creates a cognitive bottleneck in drug target discovery, particularly for identifying therapeutically relevant mechanisms beyond established pathways. In ocular neovascularization, anti-VEGF therapies are standard of care, yet non-response and resistance remain critical unmet needs. We present an integrated computational framework combining Graph Retrieval-Augmented Generation (GraphRAG)-based literature mining, pathway co-localization analysis, and deep learning-based druggability assessment for systematic target prioritization. Using 5562 angio

Exploring the spiking neural autoencoder: from hyperexcitability to noise-driven compensation.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding how artificial neural networks (ANNs) can capture biologically meaningful dynamics is a central challenge in systems neuroscience. In this work, we investigate whether spiking neural networks (SNNs) can function not only as machine-learning tools but also as biologically inspired computational analogs and tractable testbeds for studying pathological neural dynamics. METHODS: We implemented a spiking autoencoder composed of Leaky Integrate-and-Fire and Synaptic neuron models to create a controlled framework for analyzing how biologically related parametric changes t

Compensatory coupling between leak and HCN conductances defines a low dimensional solution manifold in GPe neuron subtypes.

The external segment of the globus pallidus contains distinct neuronal subtypes, primarily classified as prototypical and arkypallidal neurons, which exhibit different anatomical, electrophysiological, and functional properties. This cellular heterogeneity plays a central role in shaping basal ganglia activity under both physiological and pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Alterations in intrinsic membrane conductances, particularly leak and hyperpolarization activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) currents, have been implicated in abnor
