The major phospholipase A2 activity from bovine seminal plasma was recently purified [Soubeyrand, Khadir, Brindle and Manjunath (1997) J. Biol. Chem. 272, 222-227]. Chloroplast carbonic anhydrase is dependent on a reducing environment to retain its catalytic activity. To investigate the properties of the three accessible cysteine residues of pea carbonic anhydrase, mutants were made in which Ala or Ser substituted for C165, C269, and C272. The monocyte-like THP-1 cells express on their surface the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPA-R). This receptor, chemically cross-linked to its possible ligands, migrates, in SDS PAGE, slower than the uPA-R expressed on the epithelial thyroid cell line TAD-2, cross-linked to the same ligands. The different migration corresponds to a difference in molecular weight of 15 kDa. Similar results were obtained with peripheral monocytes and primary cultures of thyroid cells. The molecular weight of the native receptor is about 50 kDa and appears to be identical in these two cell types.

Reliable adherence of resin-based cements is of prime importance for the longevity of cemented restorations. We have characterized binding proteins for insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) in hepatic subcellular fractions and in the washed supernatants of these fractions in normal and hypophysectomized (hypox) rats.
