We report a series of 13 cases of atypical mycobacterial keratitis encountered in 1986 and 1987. The ratio of mycobacterial keratitis to the total number of corneal ulcer cases increased recently from 1% in 1984 to 8% in 1988 at our clinic. The diagnosis was established by a positive acid-fast stain of smear and a Löwenstein-Jensen media culture. Of the 13 cases, 12 were diagnosed within one week after the first presentation. BACKGROUND: Endoscopic therapy using multiple plastic stents (MPSs) is the standard therapy for postorthotopic liver transplantation (p-OLT) anastomotic biliary stricture (ABS). However, this approach demands repeated procedures. OBJECTIVE: To determine the incidence of long-term hardware-related complications of deep brain stimulation (DBS).
METHODS: The study design is a retrospective chart review of a single-surgeon, single-institution experience with DBS in 84 consecutive cases from 1993 to 1999. Only patients with a minimum follow-up of 1 year were considered. Five patients were excluded because trial stimulation failed to achieve pain relief (n = 4) or because the procedure was aborted owing to hemorrhage (n = 1). BACKGROUND: Gallbladder perforation and gallstone spillage are common during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, occurring in up to 40% and 6%-10% of cases, respectively. While most retained stones remain asymptomatic, 2.3%-8.5% of patients may present with intra-abdominal abscess, granuloma formation, abdominal wall sinus, fistula or a mass mimicking a malignancy (1). We report a unique case of a retained gallstone migrating to the chest wall 2 years after cholecystectomy, forming a chronic abscess, sinus tract, and inflammatory pseudotumor.

BACKGROUND: Nonabsorbable suture knots are usually used to link the tendon and bone during rotator cuff repair surgery. There are many variations in the arthroscopic knot-tying technique; however, the location of suture knot placement for rotator cuff healing has rarely been studied.
HYPOTHESIS: The authors compared the rotator cuff healing between knots tied on tendon and bone in a rotator cuff tear rat model. It has been hypothesized that knots can cause chronic inflammation and create the weakest link between tendon and bone, thus affecting rotator cuff healing.

A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is commonly used for fluid infusion in patients. However, rupture is one of the most serious complications associated with PICC placement. We investigated an 81-year-old patient who experienced a catheter break nearly 11 months after the placement of PICC, followed by a catheter break during catheter capture that was removed after accessing the superior vena cava with a catcher.
