Cancellous bone block allografts for the augmentation of the anterior atrophic maxilla.

BACKGROUND: Pre-implant augmentative surgery is a prerequisite in many cases in the anterior maxilla to achieve a stable, long-term esthetic final result. PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the outcome of ridge augmentation with cancellous freeze-dried block bone allografts in the anterior atrophic maxilla followed by placement of dental implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-one consecutive patients were included in the study. A bony deficiency of at least 3 mm horizontally and up to 3 mm vertically according to computerized tomography (CT) served as inclusion criteria.

Osteotome-mediated sinus floor elevation using only platelet-rich fibrin: an early report on 110 patients.

PURPOSE: This article describes a technique and reports on the early healing for localized sinus augmentation using a crestal approach in combination with an autologous leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) concentrate. Sinus bone grafting procedures using ultrasonic bone surgery: 5-year experience.

Ultrasonic bone surgery was recently introduced as an osteotomic technique; however, documentation is scarce. This article reports on the application of ultrasonic bone surgery for 53 bone-augmentation procedures in the posterior maxilla in 34 patients over 5 years. The initial residual bone height under the sinus varied between 1 and 9 mm (mean: 3.7 mm). Distribution according to residual bone height classes was 7.7% for Class B, 39.3% for Class C, and 53.0% for Class D. Hydroxyapatite-coated femoral implant in metal-on-metal resurfacing hip arthroplasty: minimum of two years follow-up.

The authors report preliminary results of an uncemented, hydroxyapatite-coated femoral implant for metal-on-metal hip resurfacing. The survival rate of 70 implants after at least 2 years follow-up was 98.6%, with an excellent clinical outcome. There have been no femoral fractures, aseptic loosening, or radiolucencies around the stem. Thinning of the femoral neck at the inferomedial cup-neck rim has been a frequent radiologic finding but with no clinical implication so far. Longer follow-up is needed to confirm the results.
