In Vivo Differentiation of hESC-Derived Neural Crest Cells into Trabecular Meshwork Cells.

Primary open-angle glaucoma is a prevalent type of degenerative eye disease that results in lifelong blindness, and its critical pathogenic … IOP), TM, and corneal changes of rabbits with cell transplantation were examined with TonoPEN AVIA, slit lamp microscope, dual-immunofluorescence staining, and optical coherence tomography. The hESC-derived NCCs underwent homogenous differentiation over the course of 5 days' induction, which expressed the typical neural crest markers HNK-1, P75, SOX10, and …

Epithelial Mapping Efficacy for Subclinical Keratoconus Identification.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the utility of automated epithelial thickness metrics to identify subclinical keratoconus (SKC) through epithelial thickness pattern comparisons between normal controls, (SKC), and manifest keratoconus (KC). DESIGN: Retrospective cross-sectional study. METHODS: There were 200 eyes from 200 patients evaluated, including: (1) 100 control eyes from 100 patients with bilaterally normal corneal topography/tomography and slit-lamp examination (controls); (2) 50 eyes from 50 patients with SKC; (3) 50 eyes from 50 patients with KC. Epithelial mapping was performed using anterior

Comparison of utilization rate and graft outcomes of corneas from cadaveric donors (CDs) versus multiorgan donors (MDs).

PURPOSE: The purpose is to compare the utilization rate and corneal graft outcomes from multiorgan donors (MDs) versus those from cadaveric donors (CDs). METHODS: In this ambispective and observational study, 36 corneas obtained from MDs and 72 corneas from their age-matched and sex-matched voluntary donors under the Hospital Cornea Retrieval Program (HCRP) from an eye bank were assessed clinically using slit lamp and under a specular microscope for their suitability for utilization. The percent utilization for keratoplasties was noted and compared between the two donor sources as the primary…

A Novel Percutaneous Surgical Approach Using Silicone Sheets for Lower Eyelid Lengthening: A Descriptive Case Series.

BACKGROUND: Lower eyelid lengthening is essential to correct eyelid retraction and preserve ocular surface integrity. We evaluated the efficacy of a novel percutaneous surgical technique that utilizes a silicone sheet to elongate the lower eyelids to minimize ocular surface inflammation and corneal damage. METHODS: This case series included 15 patients (22 eyelids) with lower eyelid retraction who underwent a novel silicone-sheet-based lower eyelid elongation surgery by the same surgeon and completed at least 3 months of follow-up that involved consistent methods (ie, slit-lamp examination) b

Panax notoginseng protects blood-retinal barrier by modulating microglia polarization via TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway in endotoxin-induced uveitis.

BACKGROUND: Panax notoginseng is a traditional Chinese medicine for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. Panax notoginseng compound is widely used in the treatment of uveitis, however, the current research focuses on the compound, and the role of Panax notoginseng in the compound has not been elucidated. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the effects and potential molecular mechanism of Panax notoginseng against uveitis. METHODS: Establishment of endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU) model in mice was induced by intravitreal injection of lipopolysaccharide, the mice

Ocular Manifestations of Sickle Cell Disease With an Emphasis on Retinal Involvement.

Background This study aimed to evaluate the spectrum of ocular manifestations in sickle cell disease (SCD) patients, with a particular emphasis on retinal involvement, to improve early diagnosis and management strategies. Methodology A cross-sectional, observational study was conducted over one year at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, recruiting 96 SCD patients aged 10 and above. Comprehensive ophthalmological evaluations included best-corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, direct/indirect ophthalmoscopy, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), and, in sele

Can Insulin Drops Accelerate Corneal Healing After Corneal Cross-Linking? A Preliminary Case Series.

Background and Objectives: Corneal cross-linking (CXL) is the standard treatment for progressive keratoconus, but delayed epithelial healing remains a concern, increasing infection risk and patient discomfort. Studies suggest that insulin may promote corneal epithelial cell migration and proliferation, potentially accelerating wound healing. Its benefit has been observed in neurotrophic keratitis and diabetic epithelial defects, and it may offer similar effects post-CXL. Our objective is to evaluate the effect of topical insulin on epithelial healing after CXL in a small case series. Materials

Correlation between early corneal edema and endothelial cell loss after phacoemulsification cataract surgery.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between early corneal edema and loss of corneal endothelial cells after phacoemulsification. METHODS: The corneal condition of each operated eye was observed using slit-lamp biomicroscopy at different time points, and the clinical score of corneal edema was determined. Central corneal thickness (CCT) and endothelial cell density (ECD) of each operative eye were measured by corneal endothelial microscopy at different time points. RESULTS: There were 10 male (41.67%) and 14 female (58.33%) cataract patients with a mean age of aged 71.88

Association of childhood obesity on retinal microvasculature and the role of biochemical markers for its early detection.

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is a growing public health concern, associated with several systemic disorders including changes in retinal microvasculature. This study aims to assess the relationship between body composition, biochemical markers, and retinal microvascular changes in obese children. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 45 overweight and obese children and 46 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were evaluated. In addition to physical examination, anthropometric measurements were obtained using a body composition analyzer. A comprehensive ophthalmic assessment was conduct

INTRODUCTION: This report describes a rare case of idiopathic orbital inflammation with posterior scleritis complicated by optic perineuritis and ocular motility disorder. CASE PRESENTATION: A 22-year-old woman presented with right ocular pain, eyelid swelling, and blurring of vision for 5 days. Her best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in the right eye, although a myopic shift was noted. An ocular motility disorder was identified on examination. Slit lamp and fundus examinations revealed diffuse scleral injection, anterior chamber inflammation, and serous retinal detachment. B-scan ultrasou…
