PURPOSE: To assess the frequency of complications specifically related to local anesthetic infiltration prior to transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy.
METHODS: A total of 200 patients receiving 10 cm(3) (5 cm(3) on each side) of 2% lidocaine injected around the periprostatic nerve plexus under TRUS guidance before prostate biopsy were included. UNLABELLED: Prevention of perioperative hypothermia is one of the most essential factor for neonatal anesthesia. Recently the forced-air warming system has been considered the most effective method in preventing perioperative hypothermia in adults, in children, and in infants during maxillofacial operations. However, its use for abdominal or thoracic surgery in neonates has not been examined. In the present study, we studied the effects of the forced-air warmer with a ring-shape cover, and compared this method with the conventional method retrospectively.

Eighty healthy children, between the ages of 2 and 7 years, undergoing dental procedures were monitored with a pulse oximeter for changes in arterial oxygen saturation. Rectal suction biopsy (RSB) is a well-known diagnostic procedure for disorders of bowel motility such as Hirschsprung's disease (HD). We report two cases of postobstructif pulmonary oedema occurring after extubation at the recovery of general anaesthesia and presenting some similarities. The young age of the patient and the occurrence of upper airway obstruction after extubation, as well as the radiologic nondependent distribution of alveolar pattern are typical. The underlying pathophysiology seems to be the mechanical disruption of the alveolar-capillary membrane.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2c) decrease from baseline greater than 20 % during infant cardiac surgery was associated with postoperative neurologic changes and neurodevelopmental impairment at 1 year of age.
