Radiation proctitis (RP) is a complication of radiotherapy in patients with pelvic cancer. A 64-year-old male underwent brachytherapy 2 years previously due to prostate cancer. Subsequently, he developed RP which was treated with argon plasma coagulation (APC). He was subsequently hospitalized due to rectal bleeding and underwent a colonoscopy. AIMS: To describe the use of argon plasma coagulation (APC) for radical resection of lipomas and hamartomas in large airways.
METHODS: Eight patients (7 males and 1 female) were retrospectively reviewed. Permanent punctal occlusion was performed by two techniques on 27 patients (73 puncta). Patients were randomly assigned to be treated with either thermal cautery or argon laser for keratitis sicca. Follow-up assessment disclosed that the puncta to which thermal cautery was applied remained closed significantly longer than those to which laser treatment was applied (P < .05, log-rank test). Using time to recanalization of a punctum as the end point, we found a long-term advantage of thermal cautery over argon laser treatment.

The efficacy of argon and diode laser photocoagulation of the avascular peripheral retina for threshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was compared in a prospective trial. The study group included 9 premature infants (17 eyes). In each infant, one eye was treated with the diode laser indirect ophthalmoscope (LIO), and the fellow eye was treated with the argon LIO.
