Its qualities include a intermediate thickness between the radial forearm flap and the pectoralis major, ideal to reconstruct oropharyngeal defect, a consistent vascular pedicle, a pliable soft tissue and a low donor site morbidity. Working conditions and health hazards including vibration syndrome related to forestry work using chain-saws were studied in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. The subjects comprised 291 workers including 97 chain-saw operators. The health examination consisted of peripheral circulatory and sensory tests in the upper extremities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the level of spinal cord injury on work efficiencies of paraplegics during arm cranking exercise. Subjects were male paraplegics including seven high paraplegics (T3-T8) and seven low paraplegics (T10-L1, 2), and seven normal males. They performed arm cranking exercise at 0 and 30 watts. We present two unrelated cases of partial trisomy for the short arm of chromosome 5, the first such cases reported in Japan. The features are characterized by hypertelorism, low set ears, arachnodactyly, laryngostenosis, hypotonia and some cerebral malformation. Fourteen cases of hemiarthroplasty for four-part fractures of the proximal humerus were reviewed. Pain relief was satisfactory, but function was limited, mainly due to loss of glenohumeral abduction despite electromyographic proof of actively contracting abductors in all cases.
