Forearm flexor injury is associated with medial ulnar collateral ligament injury in throwing athletes.

BACKGROUND: Elbow ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries have become increasingly common in throwing athletes. The forearm flexors (FF) have been studied as biomechanical stabilizers for the medial elbow. However, there are no studies investigating the association of concomitant UCL injuries and FF injuries in throwing athletes. OBJECTIVE: To determine if throwing athletes with a complete UCL injury had a greater likelihood of concomitant FF injury than those with a partial UCL injury. DESIGN: Descriptive retrospective epidemiological study. SETTING: Academic, tertiary care medical center

Injury rates in martial arts athletes and predictive risk factors for lower limb injuries.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies attempted to identify possible risk factors for acute and overuse injuries in several sports disciplines such as running, gymnastics or team sports. Given the lack of scientific works focused on risk factors for lower limb injuries in martial arts, the present study was aimed to investigate foot anatomy, anthropometric measures, and other background information as possible risk factors of injury in barefoot athletes practicing judo, karate, kung fu, Thai boxing, or aikido. In addition, the injury rates were evaluated in relation with the different martial art style

Hamstring rehabilitation in elite track and field athletes: applying the British Athletics Muscle Injury Classification in clinical practice.

RATIONALE: Hamstring injuries are common in elite sports. Muscle injury classification systems aim to provide a framework for diagnosis. The British Athletics Muscle Injury Classification (BAMIC) describes an MRI classification system with clearly defined, anatomically focused classes based on the site of injury: (a) myofascial, (b) muscle-tendon junction or (c) intratendinous; and the extent of the injury, graded from 0 to 4. However, there are no clinical guidelines that link the specific diagnosis (as above) with a focused rehabilitation plan. OBJECTIVE: We present an overview of the gener

The influence of athletic identity, coach-athlete relationship quality, and peer climate on emotional resilience in injury-prone sports.

INTRODUCTION: Athletes competing in injury-prone sports are routinely exposed to physical risk and psychological strain, making psychological adaptation a critical yet underexplored issue in sport psychology. Drawing on identity-based perspectives, conservation of resources theory, and self-determination theory, this study examined whether athletic identity influences psychological adaptation through emotional resilience and whether coach-athlete relationship quality and peer climate strengthen this process. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 482 athletes participating in i

Factors Affecting Return to Play in Athletes With Foot and Ankle Injuries.

Recovery from injury for athletes is a multifaceted process that requires physiologic healing of the injury and psychological readiness. Although the individual injury will dictate the terms of healing and different injuries require different recoveries, healing or near-healing of the orthopaedic injury is the first step along the path of return to play. Return to play encompasses a range of milestones that often begin with a limited return to the practice field and end with return to full competition in an unlimited manner. Optimizing the psychology of recovery can allow for a more linear rec
