The distribution of 14 ARGs, intI1, and 16S rDNA were analysed in 4 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), 2 effluent receiving areas (ERAs), and Hangzhou Bay (HZB). The results showed that each integrated WWTP (IWWTP) received higher abundance of ARGs than pharmaceutical WWTPs (PWWTPs), and IWWTPs removed ARGs more efficiently than PWWTPs. The WWTP effluents greatly contributed to the ARGs pollution in the water environments of the ERAs and HZB, and the total abundance of the ARGs displayed a distance decay pattern. Haifa Bay (HB), located along the northern Mediterranean shore of Israel was polluted with Hg from a chlor-alkali plant (ECI) and from the Qishon River industries, for decades. From the mid-1980s industrial Hg loads into HB decreased dramatically until their complete cessation in 2000. In the US, prescription stimulants are prescribed for a variety of conditions including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Over the last two decades, dramatic increases in stimulant prescriptions have led to greater availability and increased risk for diversion and nonmedical use. This study aims to reveal spatial distribution of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur species in marine sediments in Hiroshima Bay, Japan, by direct analyses using a combination of detection tubes and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Chidiyatappu Bay is one of the least disturbed marine environments of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the union territory of India. Oceanic flushing from southeast and northwest direction is prevalent in this bay. Further, anthropogenic activity is minimal in the adjoining environment. Nutrient load into the ocean can be retained during the process of plant uptake and sedimentation in marshes along the bay zone. Seasonal variations of biomass and nutrient concentration in three dominated plant assemblages and associated sediments were monitored in this study area to determine effects of salt marsh on nutrient retention. INTRODUCTION: Maintaining good nutrition is vital for healthy ageing. Poor nutrition increases the risk of hospitalisation, disability and mortality. Research shows clinical malnutrition is preceded by a state of nutritional risk and screening can identify older people at risk of poor nutrition or who currently have impaired nutritional status.
AIM: To assess the population prevalence of nutritional risk amongst community-living Maori and non-Maori older people in Hawke's Bay.
METHODS: A postal survey of 1268 people aged 65 years or older on the electoral roll for Hawke's Bay was conducted.

Avian schistosomes belonging to the genus Austrobilharzia (Digenea: Schistosomatidae) are among the causative agents of cercarial dermatitis in humans. Novel strains of Brucella recently have been discovered in marine mammals. To investigate Brucella exposure and infection in a general population of cetaceans, blood and tissue samples were collected and analyzed from wild harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) incidentally caught in fishing gear in the Bay of Fundy, Canada. Two of 170 (1.2%) animals had detectable antibodies against Brucella, but no organisms were isolated from genital swabs or tissues from 22 and 8 porpoises, respectively. During an ongoing epizootic of mycobacteriosis, wild striped bass Morone saxatilis from Chesapeake Bay were analyzed using 3 methods for detection of either mycobacterial infection or associated granulomatous pathology. The specific detection techniques, which utilized aseptically collected splenic tissue, were histology, quantitative culture and nested PCR. An objective classification analysis was performed on a water quality data set from 25 sites collected monthly during 1994-2003. The water quality parameters measured included: TN, TON, DIN, NH4+, NO3-, NO2-, TP, SRP, TN:TP ratio, TOC, DO, CHL A, turbidity, salinity and temperature. BACKGROUND: The success of arterial switch operations for transposition of the great arteries largely depends on faultless coronary translocation and subsequent sufficient myocardial perfusion. However, in patients with complex coronary artery anatomy, coronary translocation is often difficult to perform by conventional surgical techniques alone. Therefore we developed the "bay window" technique as a useful adjunct in patients with complex coronary arteries undergoing concomitant coronary translocation and arterial switch operation. Early and midterm results of this technique are described.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the normal vocal acoustic parameters and electroglottographic (EGG) parameters and their differences in normal children of the Han, the Naxi, the Bai nationality.
METHOD: By using computer and Dr. speech software, We studied six parameters of voice acoustic and the E.G.G. in 951 children (Han 342, Naxi 224, Bai 385), aged 4-8 years old. We also examined 30 cases who suffered from vocal nodule and local proliferation.
