The original purpose of this study was to compare initial resuscitation of hemorrhagic hypotension after traumatic brain injury (TBI) with saline and shed blood. Based on those results, the protocol was modified and saline was compared to a blood substitute, diaspirin cross-linked hemoglobin (DCLHb). Modified Thayer-Martin (MTM) medium containing goat blood (MTMGB) and sheep blood (MTMSB) was compared for culture of N. gonorrhoeae. Evaluation of 252 endocervical specimens and quantitative culture of 10 strains revealed no significant difference in isolation and growth. In a prospective, randomized, controlled, parallel group study the effect of different infusion solutions (HES 200/0.5 10%, dextran 40 10% and electrolyte solution) during and after intervertebral disc microsurgery on blood fluidity and conjunctival partial oxygen pressure was measured.
