A mediastinal squamous cell carcinoma and thyroid carcinoma were found in an aged horse. Clinical signs consisted of bilateral thyroid gland enlargement, chronic cough, and mild respiratory distress. The neoplasms were not treated. Squamous cell carcinoma is a common neoplasm in horses, but not in the cranial portion of the mediastinum. Thyroid carcinomas in horses are uncommon. This combination of neoplasms is rare and may have been associated with a defect in the immune system.

Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is the most common adverse event of chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy and is usually characterized by systemic symptoms such as fever, hypotension, and hypoxia. Lymphoma is a common tumor in ferrets, but anatomic distribution, histomorphology, immunophenotype, laboratory abnormalities, and response to chemotherapy are incompletely defined. AIMS: Stimulation of β-adrenergic receptors (β-AR) increases cAMP production and contributes to the pathogenesis of cardiac hypertrophy and failure through poorly understood mechanisms. We previously demonstrated that Exchange protein directly activated by cAMP 1 (Epac1)-induced hypertrophy in primary cardiomyocytes. Among the mechanisms triggered by cardiac stress, autophagy has been highlighted as a protective or harmful response. Here, we investigate whether Epac1 promotes cardiac autophagy and how altered autophagy has an impact on Epac1-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.

OBJECTIVE: To look for correlations between radiological patterns and CD4+ T cell counts in patients coinfected with tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus.
METHODS: Patients included were selected from among those presenting human immunodeficiency virus/tuberculosis coinfection and admitted to the Nereu Ramos Hospital, located in Florianópolis, Brazil, between January of 2000 and December of 2003.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) affects cell growth in neural tissues, resulting in neurofibromas of the internal organs, peripheral nerves and/or autonomic nerves.
