Cefadroxil, a cephalosporin, had been prescribed to children with superinfected atopic dermatitis, and was shown to improve both the infection, the clinical status and induced a dramatic lowering of the serum total IgE levels. Further studies have confirmed the IgE immunomodulating properties of cefadroxil. METHODS: We used 2001-2006 Childhood Agricultural Injury Survey data to estimate the incidence of nonfatal injury and 2001-2006 Multiple Cause of Death data to estimate the incidence of fatal injury. BACKGROUND: Vaccination with 2 doses of > 95% of the population is necessary to eliminate measles. In Switzerland and especially in the central part, vaccine coverage is low (2006: 65%). This led 2006-2009 to a measles epidemic with thousands of cases and high costs. One death was noted in a formerly healthy 12 year old girl.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: All measles cases, either hospitalized or reported to the authority, in the canton Lucerne between 2006 and 2009 were included. Course, complications, immunization rates and costs of the hospitalized children were analyzed.

The 29 year old woman with a caesarian section 5 years before was hospitalized in the 23 rd gestational week bleeding by a placenta praevia totalis and was intravenously tocolized. In the 26 nd gestational week a caesaran re-section was necessary because of heavy acute abdominal symptoms. The uterus presented torquated for 180 degrees to right. The male child (720 g, pH 7.22) died the next night by extreme immaturity. The mother was discharged after 8 days without complications.

We present our experience with children with febrile convulsions admitted to a large teaching hospital. Elective admission on a routine basis increases the tendency for unnecessary additional tests. Hospital admission should be reserved for children with severe multiple febrile seizures, or the underlying serious disease or where parental anxiety and other social circumstances indicate. Workups should be done only in selected cases consistent with clinical findings. The yield of such workup is marginal, even in a hospitalized child with multiple febrile seizures.
