Giant cell reparative granuloma (GCRG) is a rare, benign intra osseous lytic lesion occurring especially in gnathis bone but also seen in feet and hands. It has similar clinical and radiological presentations than giant cell tumor, chondroblastoma, aneurysmal bone cyst, and hyperparathyroidism brown tumors but with specific histological findings We report a case of a GCRG of hallux phalanx in 18 years old patient appearing many years after enchondroma curettage and grafting. Radiographs showed a multiloculated osteolytic lesions involving whole phalanx with cortical thinning and without fluid-…

The Enchondroma is a common, benign, cartilage forming tumour. They usually occur as a single, asymptomatic lesion. Occasionally patients present with multiple enchondromas which is generally defined as enchondromatosis. This entity encompasses several different subtypes including Ollier disease and Maffucci syndrome (enchondromatosis associated with soft tissue haemangiomas) as the most commons. Some of them have a complicated clinical course when malignant transformation occurs. This malignant progression is a well known fact especially in enchondromatosis, but up to now there is still a lac…

Chondromyxoid fibroma occurs primarily in the long tubular bones of the lower extremity, with the foot representing the second most frequent location after the knee. This benign cartilaginous tumor of bone is currently the rarest reported neoplasm of cartilaginous origin. This mass can mimic other benign and malignant bone tumors owing to its variable histologic features. We report 2 cases of chondromyxoid fibroma of the calcaneus with varying presentations. Initially, advanced imaging studies pointed to a diagnosis of a unicameral bone cyst. Pathologic examination is difficult but can be used

We report a typical case of nasal chondromesenchymal hamartoma (NCMH) of infancy, which extended to the orbit and intracranium through the skull base. The nasal mass was incidentally found in a 5-month-old otherwise healthy boy who had recently developed ptosis of the left eye. On neuroimaging, there were defects in the left ethmoid bone of the anterior cranial fossa and medial orbital wall. A round heterogeneous mass was found in the left nasal cavity. Solid portions were strongly enhanced. The preoperative diagnosis was nasal glioma or encephalocele. After frontal craniotomy, the mass was se

In the case presented, the imaging features are those of an aggressive benign or less aggressive malignant lesion. The differential diagnosis radiographically included aneurysmal bone cyst with or without an accompanying lesion, giant cell tumor synovial sarcoma, and other mesenchymal sarcomas. Indeed, at times it is difficult to be certain whether the process originated in the bone or soft tissue. Pathological examination of the resected specimen showed the typical features of chondromyxoid fibroma. Grossly, the tumor was well demarcated and firm and composed of tan, translucent tissue that d

Osteochondromas arising from the long bones, pelvis, or scapulae are common. However, osteochondromas originating from the base of the skull are extremely unusual. Although these tumors are histologically benign, intracranial extension and their close proximity to the cranial nerves may require complex surgery. We present a case in which CT clearly delineated an osteochondroma arising from the base of the skull. The tumor had created a fusion with the ipsilateral coronoid process of the mandible, thus causing lockjaw.

We describe a 36-year-old woman with a thoracic vertebral osteochondroma who presented with radicular leg pain. This benign tumor is uncommon in the vertebral column, and radicular pain is an unusual manifestation of a thoracic spinal lesion. Myelography and computed tomography aided in diagnosis; surgical resection resulted in an excellent clinical response.

Thirty-two synovial chondromatoses of the hip have been treated surgically. Nine cases were discovered accidentally in arthrotic hips being treated by total arthroplasty. Eleven partial joint clearances were made, five by an anterior approach and six by a lateral approach without dislocation of the hip, with bad results due to persistence of pathological synovium in the depth of the acetabular fossa. Twelve complete joint clearances were made with subtotal synovectomy and removal of all loose bodies, especially from the acetabular fossa, by dislocating the hip. The results were better and the …

A rare case of osteocartilaginous exostosis, also called osteochondroma, is described. The resection of the tumor through an extra-oral incision is the treatment of choice. The follow-up covers a period of 4 years. No relapse was observed and postoperatively the function of the temporomandibular joint was practically normal.

A case of synovial chondromatosis affecting the temporomandibular joint is reported and the literature is reviewed. Chondromatosis occurs most frequently in this joint in middle-aged women, and it presents with pain and tenderness over the joint. Radiologically, the condition is detected by widening of the joint space with variable presence of radiodense loose bodies. Pathologically, the loose bodies in the case presented were demonstrated arise from cartilaginous metaplasia of the synovial lining. The stimulus for synovial chondrometaplasia at this site is unknown.

BACKGROUND: Synovial chondromatosis is a non-malignant synovial disorder characterized by the presence of cartilage formation within the synovial membrane, leading to the emergence of multiple cartilaginous nodules that may be either attached or unattached. The presence of this anatomical feature is frequently observed in articulations such as the knee, hip, elbow, and ankle.
CASE REPORT: In this study, we present a case of synovial chondromatosis in the knee joint of a healthy male in his early 60s. Notably, the patient exhibited the simultaneous presence of 87 large loose bodies. The occurr…

Loose bodies in joints have long held the fascination of surgeons and their recognition clearly enjoys a most distinguished antiquity (Pare, 1558; Haller, 1764; Barwell, 1876; Halstead, 1895) despite the rarity of their occurrence. This paper presents an historical review of the subject in conjunction with a report of three cases operated upon by one of the authors (JdeBN). The results have been critically reviewed by pathologists with a catholicity of experience in the field. The condition is singularly uncommon in the jaw joint, and must rank with synovial cyst and para-articular chondroma a…

Chondrosarcoma of the maxillofacial skeleton is a rare malignant tumor characterized by cartilaginous differentiation and locally invasive growth. Diagnosis is particularly challenging in low-grade tumors because histological features often overlap with those of benign chondroma. We describe a 62-year-old woman with a recurrent cartilaginous tumor of the hard palate. After previous resections in 2013 and 2022, a third recurrence was detected. MRI showed a lobulated lesion at the anterior hard palate contiguous with the nasal septum. A two-staged treatment was performed, starting with a minimal…

OBJECTIVE: To describe unusual course and unusual phenotypic features in an adult patient with Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS). Case Report. The … anisocoria, severe caries, liver cysts, pituitary enlargement, desquamation of hands and feet, bone chondroma, aortic ectasia, dermoidal cyst, and sinusoidal polyposis. The course was untypical since most of the core phenotypic features developed not earlier than in adulthood.
CONCLUSIONS: KSS is a multisystem disease, but the number of tissues affected is …

Benign tumors of the carpal bones are uncommon, and their optimal treatment is still a topic of debate due to the condition's rarity. While there is consensus on treating enchondromas with pathological fractures to alleviate symptoms, the best approach for removing these benign tumors remains uncertain. With the growing popularity of wrist arthroscopy for various wrist pathologies, we present our technique of arthroscopic enucleation, bone grafting, and fixation of scaphoid enchondroma. Our method showed favorable outcomes at the one-year follow-up. We aim to describe our technique, including …
