BACKGROUND: Weber-Christian disease (WCD) is a rare idiopathic lobular panniculitis. Its diagnosis is challenging due to its ability to mimic infections and malignancies, often leading to unnecessary surgical interventions.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old man presented with recurrent fever and painful subcutaneous nodules in 2017. For a period of 14 months, he underwent various interventions for suspected conditions, including empyema (thoracic drainage), spinal abscess (laminectomy), and infected renal cysts (nephrectomy). In March 2018, the diagnosis was confirmed by a skin biopsy, which r

Foville's syndrome, a neurological brainstem syndrome, was described in France in 1858. By chance, a talented portrait painter, CA Jensen, probably illustrated the syndrome at the same time in Copenhagen. This note illustrates the importance of observation in both neurology and art and the variety in interpretation of the same picture by viewers.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) share similar clinical features and mechanisms. In very rare circumstances, the two diseases coexist in the same patient. Here we report such a patient, who was first diagnosed with Hand-Schüller-Christian disease (HSC), a type of LCH. Several years later, the patient presented with severe exophthalmos and osteosclerosis on radiograph. New biopsy revealed ECD. We also analyze 54 cases of LCH and 6 cases of ECD diagnosed in our hospital, as well as their progression during a follow-up period of 8 years. In five cases of HSC (

Sources contemporary with Danish author Hans Christian Andersen claimed that he did not master the Danish language, which modern studies interpret as specific dyslexia. A systematic study of his diaries from age 20 to age 70 found a mean spelling error percentage of approximately 1.7 (SD = 1%, range = 0%-4%). A methodologically independent reliability study confirmed these figures. Andersen's error percentages in poems and letters from ages 11 to 19 show a typical initial part of a learning curve that, together with the results from the diaries, gives a life span curve of his spelling developm

The authors describe a 37-year-old man with the classic clinical features of Hand-Schüller-Christian disease. He presented with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure due to obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to a huge xanthogranuloma involving falx cerebri and tentorium cerebelli. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies failed to demonstrate Langerhans histiocytes, however. The implication of this finding is discussed in light of the recent relevant literature.

The Weber-Christian syndrome associates generalized nodular inflammatory panniculitis with osteoarticular manifestations. Pathogenesis of this rare affection is still obscure but a pancreatic origin has been reported in the literature. A case is presented having the particular features of being revealed by a subacute episode of chronic pancreatitis, and by the intensity of radiologic bony manifestations.
