Borderline Personality Disorder "Discouraged Type": A Case Report.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental illness associated with a significant degree of distress and impairment because of the difficulties in effectively regulating emotions. BPD is frequently associated with Depressive Disorders, most commonly Major Depressive Disorder and Dysthymia. [Compulsive symptoms in anorexia and bulimia nervosa].

The present study reports findings concerning the prevalence of obsessive-compulsive symptoms in eating disorders. Ninety-three women meeting DSM-III-R criteria for anorexia nervosa (AN) or bulimia nervosa (BN) were investigated using the Hamburg Obsession Compulsion Inventory HZI-K (Klepsch et al. 1993). Forty-six patients (49.5%) met the criteria for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This subgroup showed significant pathologically elevated scores on several scales of the Eating Disorder Inventory (Garner et al. 1983), and two different personality questionnaires (Freiburger Persönlichkeit

A comparison of clinical features in trichotillomania and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Trichotillomania (TM) recently has been conceptualized as a variant of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, no systematic data have compared the clinical features of these two disorders. Here we report data from 8 TM and 13 OCD patients which suggest important clinical differences between groups. First, TM patients reported a significantly greater degree of pleasure during hair-pulling than OCD patients reported during performance of ritualistic behaviors. Second, TM was accompanied by significantly fewer associated obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Third, the groups differed with regard

[Understanding dental anxiety better: an overview of possible causes].

Anxious behaviour in the oral healthcare is often called as dental anxiety or dental phobia . However, the terminology is more nuanced and such behaviour could also be a symptom of other anxiety problems. These might include anxiety disorders, such as a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder or panic disorder. But it may also involve other psychological disorders with pronounced anxiety characteristics, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and illness anxiety disorder. "Pick" wisely: An approach to diagnosis and management of pathologic skin picking.

Manipulation of the skin is ubiquitous in most individuals along a spectrum of extent and severity. Skin picking that results in clinically evident changes or scarring to the skin, hair, and nails or significantly impairs intrapsychic, psychosocial, or occupational function is considered pathological picking. Several psychiatric conditions are associated with skin picking, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviors, borderline personality disorder, and depressive disorder. It is also associated with pruritus and other dysesthetic disorders. Although pathologic s

Magnitude and variability of structural brain abnormalities in neuropsychiatric disease: protocol for a network meta-analysis of MRI studies.

INTRODUCTION: Structural MRI is the most frequently used method to investigate brain volume alterations in neuropsychiatric disease. Previous meta-analyses have typically focused on a single diagnosis, thereby precluding transdiagnostic comparisons. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will include all structural MRI studies of adults that report brain volumes for participants from at least two of the following diagnostic groups: healthy controls, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, psychotic depression, clinical high risk for psychosis, schizotypal personality disorder, psychos

The structure of personality in Parkinson's disease and the effects of age, years since diagnosis, and impulsivity.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily characterized by motor and cognitive symptoms. However, emerging evidence suggests that personality alterations may also be present, potentially affecting patients' quality of life and clinical outcomes. Prior studies have identified patterns such as lower openness and extraversion and higher neuroticism in PD patients, although findings have been inconsistent. This study aimed to investigate the structural organization of personality in PD using a network-based approach, and to examine the influence of

[Antipsychotics: treatment of schizophrenia and other therapeutic options].

Antipsychotics are used in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses, as well as bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and specific types of personality disorders. Due to better tolerability, as well as some advantages of the pharmacological profile, the second-generation antipsychotics are preferred in clinical practice. A special place among antipsychotics is taken by sulpiride, which shows the ability to improve the condition of patients with different types of mental disorders as well as with internal diseases.

Personality-based subtypes of anorexia nervosa: examining validity and utility using baseline clinical variables and ecological momentary assessment.

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to empirically derive and validate clinically relevant personality-based subtypes of anorexia nervosa (AN). METHODS: Women (N = 116) with full or subthreshold AN completed baseline measures of personality, clinical variables, and eating disorder (ED) symptoms, followed by two weeks of ecological momentary assessment (EMA). A latent profile analysis was conducted to identify personality subtypes, which were compared on baseline clinical variables and EMA variables. RESULTS: The best-fitting model supported three subtypes: underregulated, overregulated, and low psy

The COGINS: A New Measure of Cognitive Insight in Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders.

Research suggests that individuals with obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs) with lower insight show a poorer response to cognitive behavioral therapy and might benefit from alternative treatments. However, there are inconsistencies in the literature regarding the definition and measurement of insight. This study endeavored to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Cognitive Obsessional Insight Scale (COGINS), a novel self-report measure of cognitive insight in OCRDs. The sample comprised 166 participants with a diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder or body dysmorphic d
