In this study, we assessed the frequency of cyclin D1 protein expression in normal and neoplastic parathyroid tissue (10 parathyroid carcinomas, 28 adenomas, 18 hyperplasias, and 32 normal parathyroid glands) with use of a monoclonal anticyclin D1 antibody and a heat-induced epitope retrieval method. Lung cancer results from a stepwise accumulation of genetic and molecular abnormalities with unknown temporal relationships to precursor bronchial lesions. In a search for biomarkers of malignant progression, we analyzed the expression of the tumor suppressor gene Rb and of the proteins regulating its phosphorylation and function in G1 arrest, p16INK4A and cyclin D1, in preinvasive bronchial lesions accompanying cancer in 75 patients, in comparison with similar lesions in 22 patients with no cancer history. Rb was constantly expressed in preinvasive lesions, including carcinoma in situ (CIS).

BACKGROUND: A rising percentage of tetracycline-resistant Propionibacterium acnes strains has been reported in the English literature.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We studied a population of 16 patients with acne who had been treated with oral tetracyclines during the preceding year. A bacteriological examination of a skin biopsy was obtained in all patients to determine aerobic and anaerobic flora as wells as resistance to tetracycline and minocycline.

BCL1/PRAD1 gene rearrangements involving the cyclin D1 gene are a feature of about 70% of centrocytic/mantle-cell lymphomas (CC/MCL) but are identified in only a small proportion of other B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. BACKGROUND: Centrocytic/mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is characterized by a specific chromosomal translocation, t(11;14)(q13;q32), which leads to deregulated expression of the G1 cyclin, cyclin D1 (PRAD1, CCND1, BCL1). The proliferative activity of crypt epithelial cells was studied in 64 duodenal biopsies using immunohistochemistry and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA)/cyclin monoclonal antibodies in alcohol-fixed paraffin-embedded sections. A positive correlation between duodenitis as defined by histological criteria and increased mean percentage of PCNA positive crypt cell nuclei (PCNA index) was found. The mean PCNA index in normal mucosa was 11.8 +/- 2.7% (mean +/- SD), in mild (grade 1) duodenitis 17.3 +/- 3.9%, in moderate (grade 2) 30.6 +/- 6.9%, and in severe (grade 3) duodenitis 41.1 +/- 8.
