The following description is a clinical case of placenta accreta and its conservative treatment. According to some authors, abnormal adhesion of the placenta depends on the alteration of the equilibrium between the trophoblastic tissue invasion and the reaction of the decidua. We report a newborn female born at 29 weeks' gestation who was unable to be resuscitated following a vaginal breech delivery. At autopsy the larynx and trachea contained a 1.2 x 0.2 cm fragment of tissue. Microscopic sections of this tissue revealed it to consist of decidua. This is the first report in the literature of tracheal obstruction secondary to aspiration of decidua. The mechanism by which this tissue may have resulted in completed obstruction of the trachea is discussed.

An analysis of DNA content in decidua cells and decidua cell number in compact decidual layer was performed in 19 women with physiological pregnancy and labour, in 31 women with oedema of pregnancy, in 29 women with light and in 11 women with severe pre-eclampsia. Significant difference in DNA content in the group with oedema of pregnancy and in the groups with other gestosis forms was demonstrated. Thus, a conclusion is made that oedema may have an independent genesis.
