INTRODUCTION: In vital pulp therapy such as direct pulp capping, clinical success rates depend on achieving hemostasis in exposed pulp tissue. For hemostasis of exposed pulp tissue, gentle pressure by cotton pellets moistened with sodium hypochlorite is most commonly used. However, more rapid and reliable methods are necessary. Therefore, we focused on high-frequency radio waves (HRW).
METHODS: To evaluate reparative dentin induction by HRW, we used a rat direct pulp capping model and performed hemostasis by using HRW of several strengths, covering the pulp with calcium hydroxide as a direct

BACKGROUND: The elimination of pulpal infection is critical for the success of vital pulp therapy (VPT) in mature permanent teeth with carious pulp exposure. However, commonly used pulp capping materials often possess inadequate antibacterial properties, which limits treatment success. This study aimed to develop a zinc-containing ionic liquid (IL-Zn)/carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) composite and evaluate its potential as an adjunctive pulp capping material for VPT.
METHODS: IL-Zn was characterized by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), proton n

BACKGROUND: In children, dental caries is among the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide. Pulp interventions are indicated for extensive tooth decay. Depending on the severity of the disease, three pulp treatment techniques are available: direct pulp capping, pulpotomy and pulpectomy. After treatment, the cavity is filled with a medicament. This is an update of a Cochrane review first published in 2003. The previous review found insufficient evidence regarding the relative efficacy of these interventions, combining one pulp treatment technique and one medicament.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the

This study reports on the occurrence of class II antigen expressing cells in inflammatory lesions experimentally induced in the rat incisor pulp. Concanavalin A and lipopolysaccharide of Bacteroides gingivalis were applied to the exposed pulp following a preparation through alveolar bone and dental tissues in the midpart of the root. In a set of control teeth, pulpal exposures were capped with Cavit without the placement of antigenic material. Animals were killed after 3, 12, 24, 48 or 96 hours. Pulp tissue specimens were subjected to immunohistochemical analysis utilizing a monoclonal mouse a

PURPOSE: To evaluate the pulp capping effect of iRoot BP Plus combined with Nd: YAG laser irradiation in the treatment of caries induced exposed pulp and its impact on pulp vitality and occlusal function recovery.
METHODS: From January 2022 to January 2023, a total of 196 patients with dental caries and exposed pulp, including 268 permanent teeth, were selected and randomly divided into the experimental group of 98 patients (136 teeth) and control group of 98 patients (132 teeth) using computer randomization. Both groups were treated with Nd:YAG laser after cleaning the caries. The experiment

Pulp exposure due to traumatic injuries in the anterior permanent teeth of adolescents is a common occurrence. A vital permanent maxillary incisor with complex crown fracture and pulp exposure was treated by partial pulpotomy and assessed clinically through pulpal sensitivity tests and radiographically for periapical healing. Partial pulpotomy consisted of pulp tissue removal to a depth of only 1 to 2 mm, then capping the pulpal wound with calcium hydroxide, lining with resin-modified glass-ionomer cement, and restoration with resin composite. At each recall (7, 15, 21, 50, 90, 150, and 250 da

Circadian rhythms coordinate metabolic and regenerative programs, yet their contribution to pulp healing and tertiary dentinogenesis remains unclear. Here, we investigated whether chronic circadian rhythm disruption (CRD) alters time-dependent dentine repair and proteomic remodeling after dental pulp injury (DPI) in male BALB/c mice. Animals were maintained either under a stable 12:12 h light-dark cycle or under a chronic jet-lag model with a daily 2 h phase advance. DPI was induced in the maxillary first molars, followed by immediate direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate and sea

AIM: The successful performance of resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) as an indirect pulp therapy (IPT) dressing material and, independently, as a class II restoration material for primary molars has been adequately documented. This study investigates if an RMGIC can be successfully used in a dual capacity.
METHODS: A total of 61, 3.5-8.5 year old children with deep proximal carious lesions in one or more primary molars, radiographically suspected of pulp exposure, were included. Teeth exclusion criteria were: continuous unprovoked pain and an exposed or a non-vital pulp. Following a

The purpose of this review is to "revisit" an earlier paper (1992) on the subject of direct pulp capping in primary teeth and bring some new considerations for the procedure by the use of dentin bonding adhesives. It has come to be recognized that the customary employment of calcium hydroxide for this therapy has some shortcomings that reduce the prognosis for a favorable outcome. For at least a decade, many investigations have found that postoperative sensitivity, thermal stimuli, pulp inflammation and pathosis can be attributed not to the composition of various dental materials and their ins

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiographic success rate of the Premixed MTA versus conventional powder/liquid MTA in indirect pulp capping of immature permanent carious mandibular molars.
METHODOLOGY: A randomized clinical trial with a parallel group design and an allocation ratio of 1:1 was conducted at the outpatient clinic at the Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. The study included 24 pediatric patients aged 6-8 years, randomly assigned to either the premixed MTA (Well-Root™ PT) (n = 12) group or the conventional

PURPOSE: The study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of three treatment modalities: Biodentine alone, Er: YAG laser followed by Biodentine, and Er: YAG laser alone. The primary objective was to determine whether the use of Er: YAG laser enhances the success rate of direct pulp capping (DPC) in cariously exposed permanent teeth.
METHODS: This study included 42 participants with mature permanent teeth requiring DPC, randomly assigned to three groups of 14 patients each. Group 1 received Biodentine alone, Group 2 underwent Er: YAG laser irradiation followed by Biodentine a

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of factors with regard to the treatment outcome of direct pulp capping using Biodentine (Septodont, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France), in permanent teeth in which the pulps were exposed during caries removal.
METHODS: Between 2010 and 2014, 112 teeth with deep carious lesions underwent direct pulp capping. The patients were followed up at 2-3 months and 1-1.5 years with a routine examination on both recall visits. Periapical radiographs were taken at 1-1.5 years. Lack of patient complaints, positive reactions to cold and electric te

OBJECTIVES: After direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), osteopontin (OPN) deposition occurs beneath the exposed pulp before the differentiation of odontoblast-like cells. This study aims to determine whether OPN is directly required for dentin bridge formation following direct pulp capping.
METHODS: Pulp exposures were made on the occlusal surface of maxillary first molars of five to six week-old, wild-type (WT) and Opn knockout (KO) mice. The cavity was filled with MTA and then with glass ionomer cement. One to 28 days (PODs 1-28), specimens were subjected to immunohisto

An experimental material, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), has recently been investigated as a potential alternative restorative material to the presently used materials in endodontics. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that MTA prevents microleakage, is biocompatible, and promotes regeneration of the original tissues when it is placed in contact with the dental pulp or periradicular tissues. This article describes the clinical procedures for application of MTA in capping of pulps with reversible pulpitis, apexification, repair of root perforations nonsurgically and surgically,
