Six patients are described, including five women with a history of many years of refractory dysuria symptoms caused by neurosis. Four patients were elementary school teachers. In none patient changes were found in numerous general and bacteriological urine analyses nor in urography and cystoscopy, and in women also in gynaecological examination. The removal of neurosis producing factors caused a regression of dysuria symptoms in three patients.

Patients with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated myelopathy (HAM) sometimes have accompanying voiding disturbances. We performed clinical surveys and urodynamic examinations on 25 untreated patients with HAM. Recurrent abdominal pains (RAPs) represent a common problem in children sometimes leading to unnecessary and invasive procedures. The rates of appendectomy were evaluated consecutively in 180 children with idiopathic hypercalciuria (HC) and/or hyperuricosuria (HU) and RAPs, and in 270 control subjects. Of the HC/HU patients 10% and of controls 1.5% underwent appendectomy (p<0.0001). A case of Hodgkin's disease with amyloidosis in various organs in a 68-year-old Japanese man is reported. The initial sign was dysuria followed by diarrhea, melena, and ileus. There was no history of pulmonary tuberculosis or rheumatoid arthritis. Autopsy findings suggested that Hodgkin's disease may have been the initial disease in development of secondary systemic amyloidosis, followed by dysuria and paralytic ileus.

We reviewed microscopy results for symptomatic male patients in order to identify clinical correlates of urethritis as diagnosed by same-day microscopy. Higher polymorph counts were found in patients presenting with discharge, or discharge together with dysuria, but dysuria without discharge was strongly associated with negative urethral microscopy. Symptoms were strongly linked to microscopy outcome but partnerships were not linked to either symptoms or outcome.
