The effects of electroacupuncture on analgesia and peripheral sensory thresholds in patients with burn scar pain.

The aim of this study is to observe if the effects of electro-acupuncture (EA) on analgesia and peripheral sensory thresholds are transposable from the model of heat pain in volunteers to the clinical setting of burn scar pain. After severe burns, pathological burn scars (PPBS) may occur with excruciating pain that respond poorly to treatment and prevent patients from wearing their pressure garments, thereby leading to unesthetic and function-limiting scars. EA might be of greater benefit in terms of analgesia and functional recovery, should it interrupt this vicious circle by counteracting th

Inhibition of glutamate and acetylcholine release in behavioral improvement induced by electroacupuncture in parkinsonian rats.

Prior evidence shows that acupuncture improves symptoms in both Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and animal models. We examined the effects of high-frequency (100 Hz) electroacupuncture (EA) on behavior in a rat PD model induced by medial forebrain bundle (MFB) transection. Neurotransmitters levels in the striatum were measured using in vivo microdialysis and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). High-frequency EA stimulation at Dazhui (GV14) and Baihui (GV20) acupoints decreased rotational behavior induced by apomorphine (APO) and improved motor coordination, protected axotomized do

Electroacupuncture alleviates depression and gastrointestinal dysfunction by rebalancing GABAergic activity in the central amygdala.

BACKGROUND: Depression is frequently accompanied by gastrointestinal disturbances, reflecting the close interplay between emotional regulation and gut physiology. The central amygdala (CeA), particularly its GABAergic neurons, has been identified as a critical hub within the brain-gut axis. However, the mechanisms by which CeA inhibitory neurons mediate comorbid depressive and gastrointestinal symptoms remain poorly understood, and their potential as therapeutic targets has not been fully explored. AIM: To investigate CeA GABAergic mechanisms linking mood and gastric function and to appraise

Research trends and hotspots of electroacupuncture for depression: a bibliometric and visual analysis (2005-2025).

BACKGROUND: Depression is one of the most prevalent mental illnesses worldwide, significantly impairing patients' quality of life. As a modernized form of acupuncture, electroacupuncture (EA) has been widely applied as an adjunctive therapy for depression. In recent years, both clinical and mechanistic studies on EA have grown rapidly; however, the evidence remains fragmented, and there is still a lack of comprehensive bibliometric and visual analyses summarizing the research hotspots and developmental trends in this field. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically summarize the internatio

Effect of Electroacupuncture for Trigeminal Neuralgia: Study Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a severe neuropathic pain disorder characterized by unpredictable pain paroxysms, significantly impairing patients' quality of life through associated anxiety and depression. Electroacupuncture (EA) has demonstrated clinical value in managing chronic neuropathic pain. However, its specific efficacy as a pharmacotherapy-sparing strategy for TN remains to be systematically evaluated. This study aims to evaluate the short-term effectiveness and safety of an EA regimen for TN, and to examine changes in exploratory neuro-immune biomarkers, including IL-6 a

Electroacupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia with anxiety disorders: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is extremely vulnerable to inducing anxiety disorders in TN patients owing to the severe intensity of pain and recurrent episodes. The efficacy of the routine management of TN with anxiety disorders is still unsatisfactory. Acupuncture has been widely utilized in the treatment of TN for many years; however, the effectiveness of Electroacupuncture (EA) for TN with anxiety disorders remains uncertain. Therefore, this randomized, controlled, single-blinded trial was designed to investigate the efficacy and safety of EA for TN with anxiety disorders. METHOD
