In sixty-four cases of slipped femoral capital epiphysis presenting in adolescence, both sexes are equally represented. The disease usually affects the right hip, but in 20-40% both hips are involved. In several cases dystrophia adiposo-genitalis also occurs. In the etiology, biomechanical factors play a significant role. Clinical investigations are not sufficient. X-ray studies and measurements are always required. In radiological interpretations attention must be paid to each stage of a disease. Scintigraphy and angiography are useful sometimes.

Sonographical diagnosis of slipped epiphysis of the proximal humerus is reported in a newborn with birth traumatic etiology. In these rare conditions sonography is recommended as method of choice.

SCFE is one of the most potentially damaging conditions of the adolescent hip. The onset may be associated with minor trauma but is often insidious and may present as vague thigh or knee pain. The lateral radiograph is the most sensitive view for detection of a low-grade slip. Idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis appears in temporal coherence with puberty leading to a reversible generalized osteoporosis of the skeletal system, spontaneous fractures and skeletal deformities.
