Bloody nipple discharge is a rare finding in infants and is associated most often with benign mammary duct ectasia. The rarity of this symptom in infants and its association with breast carcinoma in adults can lead to unnecessary investigation and treatment. Here we describe a 4-month-old boy with bilateral bloody nipple discharge that resolved spontaneously without treatment by 6 months of age. Furthermore, we propose a strategic method for the evaluation of such infants.

Telethoracoscopy (TT) was performed in 76 patients with exudative pleurisy of unclear etiology. A correct diagnosis was made in all (100%) cases. Tuberculosis was detected in 41 (54%) patients. Mammary duct ectasia occurs rarely in childhood. The authors report on the case of a pubertal girl who was operated on for duct ectasia with bloody nipple discharge. Duct ectasia is regarded as a primary lesion; it is considered to be a cause of bloody secretion, and it has a mechanism similar to that of mammary duct papilloma.

We studied eight different myiasis of sheep caused by screwworm flies under laboratory conditions. Swabs were taken from the wound, before, during, and after the myiasis. Seven hundred and thirty-one samples were streaked on different bacteriological media. All samples were identified by Api System (bioMerieuex). Breast enlargement with bloody discharge is very rare in childhood. We report a two year-old boy with breast enlargement and bloody discharge. Because of persistent bloody discharge, subcutaneous mastectomy was performed. The specimen showed histologic changes identical to those seen in adult mammary duct ectasia. We suggested that the infant's own endocrine system is responsible for breast enlargement and mammary duct ectasia, possibly occurring as a result of a mechanism similar to that in adults.

We describe a case of a Merkel cell tumor of the eyelid that manifested as a recurrent chalazion. This tumor had the classic characteristics of a Merkel cell neoplasm by light microscopy. Electron microscopy showed dense-core neurosecretory granules and perinuclear microfilaments consistent with the diagnosis. Because a Merkel cell tumor may manifest as a chalazion, pathologic evaluation of all atypical chalazia is essential. Merkel cell tumors are malignant, and they must be treated aggressively to minimize recurrence or metastasis.

A patient with Hunter's Syndrome (systemic mucopolysaccharidosis type II) was evaluated for bilateral uveal effusion syndrome. The right eye showed a circular peripheral choroidal detachment for 360 degrees. The left eye showed a larger circular peripheral choroidal detachment and an exudative retinal detachment. Evaluation of the sclera during combined sclerectomies and sclerostomies of the left eye revealed markedly thickening sclera and a reduced number of vortex veins. The surgery resulted in complete resolution of the choroidal detachment and exudative retinal detachment of the left eye.

A report is given of a patient with exudative ciliochoroidal and retinal detachment associated with posterior scleritis. The history and clinical findings were similar to earlier described cases and initially led to suspicion of a malignant melanoma. Ultrasonic examination performed by combination of standardized A-scan and contact B-scan technique allowed the diagnosis to be established and the regression of this condition to be followed. There was complete recovery after treatment with atrophine and topical steroids.
