Chemical leukoderma is defined as an acquired, hypopigmented dermatosis that results from repeated cutaneous application of an agent that destroys epidermal melanocytes in genetically susceptible patients. Chemical leukoderma may develop both at the site of contact with the chemical as well as remotely from the exposure. Avoidance of the causative agent may lead to spontaneous repigmentation, but treatments commonly used in vitiligo, such as narrow-band ultraviolet B phototherapy, PUVA photchemotherapy, or topical immunosuppressants, often are necessary. We present a case of chemical leukoderm

BACKGROUND: This study compared the reactivity of scalp, face, and back to nonimmunologic contact urticants (NICU) to ascertain relative responsiveness.
METHODS: Model urticants, benzoic acid (BA) and hexyl nicotinate (HN) with 3 concentrations of each were applied to marked skin of 10 bald males during 6 weeks. One urticant was applied to one side of nasolabial fold, back, and scalp and the other applied to the contralateral side. Reactivity was assessed by visual scores (VS) and biophysical instruments. Subjects ranked skin sensation with a 10-point visual analogue scale.
RESULTS: With 0.2

Pyoderma facial (PF) is a sudden severe eruption of pustules and cystic swellings which may be interconnected by sinuses. It affects mainly adult women. We report the case of a 21-year-old woman presenting with sudden onset of coalescing nodules and abscesses on the face, with mild systemic disturbance. She also had erythema nodosum (EN)-like lesions on the legs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of PF associated with EN.

The occurrence of erythema multiforme (EM) in patients with lupus erythematosus (LE) has been described previously as a coincidental association. In contrast, LE with EM-like lesions and a peculiar immunological pattern, including positive rheumatoid factor, antinuclear antibodies and a serum antibody against an extract of human tissues recently recognized as similar to Ro (SSA), constitutes an established entity named Rowell's syndrome. We describe a woman with LE and long-standing widespread vesiculobullous and necrotic haemorrhagic EM-like lesions in combination with Ro (SSA) and scl-70 ant

A 56-year-old woman developed Favre-Racouchot syndrome involving her face and scalp primarily at the sites of x-ray irradiation for therapy of an astrocytoma. The patient had not had comedones prior to radiotherapy and did not have a history of excessive sun exposure. The patient showed an excellent response to topical retinoic acid gel. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of Favre-Racouchot syndrome developing after radiation therapy to be reported in the literature; its pathogenesis is discussed in this paper.

A female patient developed a severely irritating papulous dermatosis localized on the face and arms, running a chronic course. Histology displayed blister formation and mucin deposits in the corium. Laboratory determinations showed antibodies against thyroglobulin and cytoplasmic antibodies with high titers; thyroid function tests were normal.

Biologic medications are systemic therapeutic options for inflammatory dermatoses. Local forms of administration are less well-studied. To provide a summary of intralesional (IL) administration of biologics for various non-malignant inflammatory dermatologic conditions reported in the literature. A systematic review was performed in the PubMed and Embase databases from 2000 to 2020. Inclusion criteria included the local use of biologic medications for non-malignant cutaneous conditions. Quality was assessed with the modified Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine ratings. A total of 19 arti

Bazex syndrome (acrokeratosis paraneoplastica) is characterized by a psoriasiform eruption that favors acral sites and has been associated with an underlying malignancy in all reported cases. Of the 93 patients in this series, 89 were male with a mean age of 60 +/- 8.5 years. Squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck and squamous cell tumors of unknown primary with cervical lymph node metastases were the most commonly associated neoplasms, suggesting that the factor(s) responsible for the development of the syndrome are relatively specific for tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract. BACKGROUND: Visible skin diseases affecting the face and hands-crucial for non-verbal communication and social interaction-can deeply impact psychological well-being. Beyond physical symptoms, their visibility often affects self-esteem and social functioning, contributing to high rates of depression and anxiety. While facial dermatoses have been extensively studied, few investigations have explored the psychological impact of visible localization in other dermatoses.
OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients with visible skin diseases, identify associated fac…

Cidofovir is an antiviral nucleotide analogue with relatively new treatment capacities for dermatological conditions, specifically verruca vulgaris caused by human papilloma virus infection. In a 10-year old boy with severe verruca vulgaris recalcitrant to multiple therapies, topical 1% cidofovir applied daily for eight weeks proved to be an effective treatment with no adverse side effects. This case report, in conjunction with multiple published reports, suggests that topical 1% cidofovir is a safe and effective treatment for viral warts in pediatric patients.
