Sinonasal psammomatoid ossifying fibromas: CT and MR manifestations.

Five cases of pathologically proved psammomatoid ossifying fibromas of the sinonasal area are presented. All five cases were examined by CT and in three cases MR imaging was performed before and after injection of gadopentetate dimeglumine. The lesions were located in the sphenoethmoidal area and extended over the nasal cavity or orbit in four cases. In one case, the lesion occurred at the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone with preservation of the ethmoidal sinus. On CT, all the lesions were expansile and circumscribed by a thick bony wall. Internal septations of bone density (four cases…

Osseous destruction by neurofibroma diagnosed in infancy as "desmoplastic fibroma".

A 2-month-old male infant presented with a lytic lesion of the distal radius which was diagnosed as desmoplastic fibroma. Tumor recurred following en bloc resection of the distal radius and forearm, necessitating an elbow disarticulation. Subsequently, the child developed multiple café-au-lait spots, and histologic sections have been reinterpreted as neurofibromatosis. This case illustrates the potential difficulty in diagnosing neurofibromatosis when few or no classic stigmata of the disease are present.

Successful partial excision of an intramural fibroma of the left ventricle.

A report of the only surviving adult to undergo partial excision of an intramural cardiac left ventricular fibroma is presented. Good results were obtained by relieving outflow tract obstruction through partial excision of the tumor from the septum and left ventricle. The need for conservative surgical treatment of patients with this rare, benign tumor is emphasized.

Acute abdomen due to torsion of a pedunculated mesenteric fibroma.

A case history of a boy with an acute abdomen due to torsion of a pedunculated mesenteric fibroma is presented. A review of the literature shows that only a relatively small number of mesenteric fibromata have been reported. In these cases the tumor was described as growing between the two leaves of the mesentery. The symptoms these tumors gave usually were due to the size of the tumor and compression of adjacent organs. The present case is unusual because of the pedunculated nature of the fibroma and its presentation as an acute abdomen.

Large Fibroma of the Hard Palate: A Rare Clinical Presentation.

Fibromas of the oral cavity are benign proliferations of fibrous connective tissue, most commonly occurring in areas subject to chronic trauma, such as the buccal mucosa, tongue, and lips. Fibromas of the hard palate, particularly those of large size, are extremely rare. A 61-year-old female presented with a slow-growing, painless lesion on the midline of the hard palate that caused discomfort during mastication. Clinical examination revealed a firm, pedunculated, pale pink, cauliflower-like lesion measuring 2.5 × 3.6 cm. CT imaging showed no underlying bone involvement. An excisional biopsy w…

Aggressive Juvenile Trabecular Ossifying Fibroma of the Mandible in a Child.

Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF) is a rare, aggressive neoplasm primarily affecting children. The purpose of this case report is to describe an extensive mandibular JTOF in a 10-year-old girl who presented with facial pain and swelling. Radiographic imaging revealed a large, well-defined radiolucency with cortical perforation. Histo- pathological examination confirmed JTOF, characterized by cellular fibroblastic tissue and woven bone trabeculae. Due to the aggressive nature of the fibroma, the patient underwent a right hemimandibulectomy. This report highlights the critical need fo…

Desmoplastic fibroma of the jaw: A case report and review of the literature.

Desmoplastic fibroma (DF) is a rare benign bone tumor adopting an aggressive behavior, representing a challenge for clinical and radiographic diagnosis. This case report focused on a 31-year-old man with a large mandibular lesion with severe displacements of the mandibular teeth. Only a combination of paraclinical findings allows a definitive diagnosis to be made. Cervicofacial MRI revealed a low T1 signal intensity with peripheral enhancement after Gadolinium, and T2 hyperintense signal, while PET scan showed a moderate metabolism. Bone biopsy with immunohistochemical analysis allowed for def…

A rare morphology of the cardiac fibroma in a child: a case report.

Here we report a rare morphology of a cardiac fibroma in a child. A 2-year and 8-month-old toddler came for "chronic constipation" and was found to have a heart murmur on cardiac auscultation. Further transthoracic echocardiography suggested "a strong echogenic mass in the left ventricular wall, with some part of "a string of beads" in shape extending into left ventricle outflow tract", which was atypical for either a tumor, thrombus or vegetation. The child underwent resection of the mass and mitral valvuloplasty. Pathological examination confirmed the mass as a cardiac fibroma.

A True Fibroma in the Hard Palate: A Report of a Rare Case.

The incidence of benign neoplasms is common in the oral cavity. Provisional diagnosis does not accurately identify rare neoplasms. With differential diagnosis of similar lesions and confirmation by histopathology, rare lesions can be identified. This case report also ended up to be a rare lesion of true fibroma in the palate through a histopathology report. Hence, the correlation of clinical findings to the confirmation with histopathology leads to a definitive diagnosis of uncommon lesions.

Desmoplastic Fibroma of the Phalanx of the Hand: A Rare Case Report.

Desmoplastic fibroma is a rare primary benign bone tumour that typically affects the long bones, mandible, and pelvis. It has a similar local aggressiveness to soft tissue fibromatosis. It rarely involves the small bones of the hand. We describe an extremely rare case of desmoplastic fibroma of the proximal phalanx of the hand in a patient who presented with an aggressively enlarging but painless mass on the left ring finger. Radiological features suggested malignancy; however, an initial biopsy revealed fibrotic tissue. Trans-metacarpal amputation of the ring and little fingers and soft tissu…

Ossifying fibroma of the maxilla: A case report with literature review.

Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion arising from the periodontal ligament cells. The lesion may progressively enlarge with the mass affecting the mandible or maxilla, resulting in facial deformities and tooth displacement despite its benign nature. Here, we presented a case of an 18-year-old female with ossifying fibroma in the maxilla extending to the maxillary sinus, infraorbital area, and skull base, resulting in considerable facial asymmetry. Since the primary treatment of ossifying fibroma is surgical resection, it is essential to determine the areas where the lesion has ex…
