A 57-year-old man with a myocardial infarction was subjected to cardiac catheterization as a follow-up study for his heart problem. The catheter, made for one time use only, was reautoclaved and used sometime before catheterizing this man. A small fragment of this catheter dislodged while guiding the parent catheter into coronary vessels with a metallic guide-wire. The fragment traveled getting lodged in the central retinal artery of the right eye leaving the eye with only light perception vision. The catheter fragment could be seen in the central retinal artery at the optic nerve head.

A 77-year-old patient had a mycotic aneurysm of the left external iliac artery secondary to migration of a total hip prosthesis. The ease and simplicity of the transvenous approach to permanent pacing continue to be among its greatest advantages. However in a small proportion of transvenously paced patients complications can occur. A rare complication is an incompletely removed pacing catheter with subsequent embolization to more central parts of the cardiovascular system. This communication reports the migration of a severed transvenous pacemaker electrode and its removal from the left iliac vein with a femoral-ventricular pigtail catheter.

A brief of the literature dealing with perforations of the gastrointestinal tract at its different levels with fish bones is set forth. In recent 20 years the author has managed to collect 68 observations published in the home literature. 6 cases of the perforation of the duodenum, the small intestine, the ileum with injuries to the mesenteric vessels, resulting in massive bleeding, the caecum and the colon in the hepatic angle are presented. All the patients were operated upon. 2 patients died.

This case report demonstrates the use of the hysteroscope for the localization and removal of a missing Heyman radium capsule in a patient with endometrial carcinoma. There has been much recent interest in the use of the hysteroscope for therapeutic purposes in clinical gynecology. This case report emphasizes the value of this instrument in patient care.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to review cases that required surgical intervention to remove ingested foreign bodies.

A 15-years-old male was presented with hyperemic and painful right flank mass. His medical history was consisted of a treatment for pneumonia and hemoptysis in the other hospital five months ago. Foreign body ingestion is a common paediatric problem. In the majority of cases spontaneous passage occurs. Magnet ingestion is rare and solitary magnet ingestion usually does not cause any complications. A number of gastrointestinal complications have been reported, such as fistula formation, perforation and volvulus following multiple magnet ingestion. We review magnet ingestion and describe the first case in the literature of magnet induced perforated appendicitis with an associated ileo-caecal fistula.

A 75-year-old man had routine phacoemulsification cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in the left eye using a temporal corneal incision and inferior paracentesis. Although most ingested foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract spontaneously, those that are sharp, pointed, or large require removal to avoid serious complications. Here we report an interesting case of a 60-year-old man who swallowed a clamshell that passed through the pylorus and was caught in the duodenum. Radiologic findings made it look like a biliary stone. Endoscopic retrieval of the clamshell with a Dormia Basket was performed safely and the patient was discharged uneventfully on the day of the procedure.

We report 4 cases of apparent ophthalmic ointment in the anterior chamber after sutureless clear corneal phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. The cases, as well as previous literature, indicate that ointment for topical use can be well tolerated in the eye, although glaucoma and uveitis can be potential negative outcomes. Possible risk factors, some of which may be related to current rates of endophthalmitis after clear corneal cataract surgery, and methods to prevent intraocular ophthalmic ointment after cataract surgery are discussed.

We report the findings in a patient who developed Horner's syndrome as the first manifestation of mediastinal migration of a central venous catheter that resulted in hydromediastinum and hydrothorax. The pathogenesis of this complication of central venous catheterization is discussed.

The objective of this study was to investigate whether multiple vaginal depositions of neutron-activated talc in the cynomolgus monkey result in the translocation of this material to the uterus and beyond.
