The regenerative capacity of injured lymphatic trunks was compared to that of lymphatic capillaries following physical and chemical injuries using the techniques of micro-injection. Some transected lymphatic trunks regenerate whereas lymphatic trunks having 2 mm segments excised did not regenerate. Flow of lymph was diverted to collateral vessels. In contrast to lymphatic trunks, lymphatic capillaries showed remarkable regenerative capacity following both physical and chemical injuries.

The abdominal arterial anatomy of the guinea-pig was investigated by angiography and dissection. Normally, a coeliacomesenteric trunk was found, although various forms transitional to the hepatolienogastric trunk were found. Multiple renal arteries were common in comparison to other laboratory animals and to man. A technique for selective catheterization of the abdominal arteries is described.

Experiments in passive transfer of nickel allergy require highly sensitive guinea pigs and a reliable and technically usable test method. It is suggested that enteritis necroticans occurs in the people of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea because they have low levels of digestive proteases in the intestinal lumen. These low protease levels are the result of a low-protein diet and the presence of heat-stable trypsin inhibitors in sweet potatato, the dietary staple. Low proteolytic activity allows the B toxin of Clostridium welchii type C, which is extremely susceptible to proteolysis, to initiate the disease.

The sensitizer in epoxy resins may be the actual resin, the hardeners, the reactive diluents or the additives. An epoxy-reactive diluent, Epoxide No. 8, recently introduced on the Swedish market, and described by the manufacturer as nonsensitizing was checked for allergenicity by "the guinea pig maximization test". Adequate nutrition is a medical priority. It has been estimated that more than half the children in the Chimbu District of Papua New Guinea are malnourished. A practical scheme combat poor nutrition there was based on emphasizing the value of breast-feeding and of locally grown foods. The daily menu given was the same, with three meals each day. The scheme's underlying principles can be adapted for any developing country or for migrant and other minority groups in a developed country.

The median effective doses (ED(50)) of 28 lots of killed Pasteurella pestis strain 195/P vaccine were determined in mice and guinea pigs. Mice were injected with vaccine alone, whereas guinea pigs received vaccine suspended in incomplete Freund's adjuvant. Potency ratios of vaccines were obtained by comparing the ED(50) of the test with that of a reference vaccine. Guinea pigs with a genetically determined total deficiency of the fourth component of complement have been studied for various in vivo immunological functions. Passive cutaneous anaphylaxsis, contact and delayed hypersensitivity, and the cellular exudative response to a foreign body were normal.
