[The value of ultrasound in diagnosis of male infertility].

INTRODUCTION: The number of male patients with clinical presentation of infertility, especially secondary infertility after infections, is increasing every day. Contemporary urological standards in defining male infertility include ultrasound examination. Ultrasound examination of the scrotum using color doppler is of great importance. DIAGNOSIS OF MALE INFERTILITY: Testicular atrophy, microlithiasis and varicocele are the most common causes of male infertility. Microlithiasis and classical testicular microlithiasis are not directly associated with infertility. Gray scale sonography is used i

[Male infertility and microdeletions of the Y chromosome].

It is estimated that about 10% of men suffer from male infertility. Male infertility is associated with a reduction in the quantity, reduced mobility or abnormal morphology of sperm. In about 50-60% of cases the etiology can be identified. When the cause is unknown, it is referred to as idiopathic infertility. A genetic cause is suspected in some of the latter cases since chromosome anomalies and familial forms of male infertility have been reported. Three different regions of the Y chromosome, termed AZFa, AZFb and AZFc are recurrently deleted in about 15% of cases of idiopathic azoospermia o

Role of ultrasonography in the evaluation of the infertile male.

Ultrasonography is an important diagnostic tool in the evaluation of infertile male patients. Used in the appropriate patients, ultrasonography may be helpful in confirming the presence of a clinical varicocele and diagnosing ejaculatory duct obstruction. The accuracy of ultrasonography is operator-dependent and one must be aware of the limitations of this diagnostic modality. It is ideal for the treating urologist to perform his own ultrasonographic studies when possible, particularly TRUS. The interpretation of these studies may be influenced by clinical data not available or familiar to rad

[Role and contribution of karyotyping in male infertility].

In the context of the aetiological investigation of male infertility, the authors stress the place and the contribution of blood karyotype testing in the light of their personal experience based on 1,612 subjects. This examination has an important place, as about 15% of azoospermic subjects and 6 to 7% of subjects with oligospermia less than 10 million spermatozoa per ml, either alone or in combination with other abnormalities of the semen examination, present a congenital chromosomal abnormality. A remarkable constancy of the results was observed according to identical recruitment criteria. T

Infertility in adult males with retractile testes.

The testicular biopsy, spermiogram, and hormonal assays performed on 23 infertile adult men with no other apparent cause of infertility than bilateral retractile testes are reported. Both luteinizing hormone and testosterone levels were normal, while follicle-stimulating hormone levels were normal or increased. The spermiogram showed oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, and severe teratospermia (tapering, amorphous, and immature forms). All the testicular specimens presented several focal histologic lesions, which were distributed in a mosaic pattern. The most frequent lesions were tubular lume

[Value of the meiosis test in male infertility].

The histological evaluation of testicular biopsy in the investigation of infertility was supplemented by cytogenetic analysis of spermatogenesis in 72 patients from 1976--1978. The results show meiosis analysis to be a practical aid in the assessment of male infertility. It enables the point of interruption in the meiotic process to be accurately identified. A review of relative populations of meiotic and of interphase nuclei (the meiotic index) permits evaluation of a quantitative disturbance of spermatogenesis, a finding that is of particular value when establishing a patient's prognosis. Genetic diversity of infertile males in India.

PURPOSE: To systematically investigate the genetic architecture of severe male infertility in Indian men, with a specific focus on chromosomal abnormalities and the contribution of de novo variants. METHOD: We recruited 247 infertile males between 2021 and 2024 presenting with severe quantitative and qualitative sperm defects. All patients underwent karyotyping and Y chromosome microdeletion STS-PCR. A single molecule molecular inversion probe-based targeted sequencing assay covering 39 male infertility genes was performed in 120 patients, while whole exome sequencing (WES) was conducted in 4

Recent advances in the management of male infertility.

Male factor infertility has been rising, which accounts for up to 30% of infertility cases and contributes to 50% of overall cases. The aim of this review is to explore the recent advances that have emerged in the field through a narrative review. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using multiple databases, including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Gray literature was also reviewed through ClinicalTrials.gov and the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform. The findings were presented narratively to encompass the extensive

Is ferroptosis a cause for concern in male infertility?

Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of regulated cell death, has emerged as a key player in the pathophysiology of various disorders, including male reproductive dysfunction. This review explores the interplay of ferroptosis with male reproductive health, focusing on the molecular mechanisms involved. Global male reproductive health has been deteriorating due to a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, including oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS), epigenetic alterations, and posttranslational modifications (PTMs). Ferroptosis is characterized by iron ove

Leukocytospermia and/or Bacteriospermia: Impact on Male Infertility.

Infertility is a globally underestimated public health concern affecting almost 190 million people, i.e., about 17.5% of people during their lifetime, while the prevalence of male factor infertility is about 7%. Among numerous other causes, the prevalence of male genital tract infections reportedly ranges between 10% and 35%. Leukocytospermia is found in 30% of infertile men and up to 20% in fertile men. Bacterial infections cause an inflammatory response attracting leukocytes, which produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and release cytokines, both of which can cause damage to sperm, rendering

Effect of Stress and Caffeine on Male Infertility.

Caffeine is a natural psychoactive chemical found in beverages made from coffee. In addition, it is added by the manufacturers of a large number of sodas and energy drinks. It does this by stimulating both the brain and the central nervous system, enabling you to avoid being sleepy while still keeping you attentive. A state of emotional or physical tension is defined as stress. It can be induced through the experience of something or thinking of something that causes you to feel uncomfortable, irritated, or nervous. Your body's response to adversity or demand is what we call stress. Among coup

The use of hormone stimulation in male infertility.

Infertility affects 15% of couples worldwide and in approximately 50% of cases the cause is secondary to an abnormality of the sperm. However, treatment options for male infertility are limited and empirical use of hormone stimulation has been utilised. We review the contemporary data regarding the application of hormone stimulation to treat male infertility. There is strong evidence supporting the use of hormone stimulation in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism but there is inadequate evidence for all other indications.
