Social stigmatization can disrupt the ability of individuals with genetic conditions to successfully adapt to their situation. We offer data on perceptions of stigma from a cross-sectional survey of 174 adults with Marfan syndrome by self-report. RATIONALE: Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (HIES) is a rare and complex immunoregulatory multisystem disorder characterized by recurrent eczema, skin and sinopulmonary infections, elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels, and eosinophilia. Onset is most likely in childhood, although infrequent adult cases have been reported. Early diagnosis is important. The use of the National Institutes of Health scoring system and the HIES signal transducer and activation of transcription 3 score can standardize the diagnosis of HIES.

Here we describe a patient with hyper-IgE syndrome presenting with recurrent staphylococcal abscesses, pneumonia, and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, and report the identification of a novel STAT3 mutation at amino acid position 621, which has not previously been described. We report about a 35-year-old man with a cavitary legionella pneumonia who had a history of chronic eczematoid lesions since infancy, recurrent skin and lung infections and a very high total IgE level. We carried out further investigations and made a diagnosis of a primary immunodeficiency classified in the Hyper-IgE syndromes. Cavitation of legionella pneumonia may become fairly common in immunocompromised patients, while is found rarely among immunocompetent hosts.

UNLABELLED: A cohort of 536 workers was enrolled from 10 diverse manufacturing facilities and was followed monthly for six years. Job physical exposures were individually measured. Worker demographics, medical history, psychosocial factors, current musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) were obtained.
