Listeria monocytogenes usually causes meningitis or bacteremia, often in immunocompromised adults, pregnant women, or infants. We report a case of septic arthritis caused by L. monocytogenes in a patient with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) whose hip replacement was infected. She subsequently died, probably secondary to an adult respiratory distress syndrome, a rare complication of listerial infection. The knee joints of mice can be used as a model for studying the effects of interventions on knee laxity. The goal of this study was to quantify knee joint laxity in vitro. Twenty-seven patients who had received treatment for dislocation of the extensor tendons over the metacarpophalangeal joint were reviewed. The occurrence of Mycoplasma hyosynoviae in synovial fluid of baconers with chronic arthritis was studied at an abattoir. Cultural examination of synovial fluid samples from diseased tarsal joints of 50 animals from 42 herds yielded M. hyosynoviae in 10 cases from 8 herds. The data of pathomorphologic investigations of intervertebral ++ joints of the lumbar++ part of spine in case of osteochondrosis and in connection with age are presented in the article. 32 arthrograms of ++ intervertebral++ joint, taken in the patients' lifetime, have been analyzed. A motorcyclist presented for treatment with divergent dislocation of the bases of the four medial metacarpals, avulsion of the hook of the hamate, dislocation of the trapezium from the scaphoid, and palmar fracture-dislocation of the wrist. This constellation of injuries has never been described. The carpometacarpal joints were reduced at surgery and pinned. A 56-year-old diabetic woman developed multiple cutaneous lesions and septic arthritis secondary to disseminated Nocardia asteroides pulmonary infection. The diagnosis was made rapidly by Gram's and acid-fast stains of pus, sputum, and synovial fluid and later confirmed by cultures. Sulfonamides are the drugs of choice for nocardiosis, and this patient had a complete response to two weeks of intravenous trimethoprim and sulfamethoxasole followed by three months of oral therapy.

The lumbar facet joints have been recognized for many years to be an important source of chronic low back pain with sciatic radiation.
