Excimer 308-Nm Light in the Combination Treatment of Vitiligo: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.

Excimer 308-nm light is often used for vitiligo treatment in combination with adjuvants. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of these combination therapies. We searched MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library from inception to November 2024. All randomised trials reporting efficacy outcomes for vitiligo patients treated with excimer 308-nm light were included. Primary outcomes were achieving ≥ 50%, ≥ 75% and 100% skin repigmentation. Pairwise comparisons of treatment repigmentation were summarised as risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and a frequentist, random-effects network

The most influential research in laser therapy for acne and acne scars: A bibliometric analysis.

Laser therapy is a key acne treatment, yet no bibliometric study has integrated advanced metrics, co-word dynamics, keyword clustering, and citation analysis of the top 100 papers. Three Scopus search strategies were used, and the top 100 most cited papers were analyzed for descriptive statistics and citation impact. The Title-Abstract-Keyword (TAK) search identified 2,352 papers, with output increasing steadily from 2004 and reaching a peak in 2024 (187 papers). The Abstract-only search retrieved 1,209 papers, also peaking in 2024 (98 papers), while the Title-only search yielded 468 papers, w

A systematic review of the safety and effectiveness of laser and light therapies for the treatment of pigmented purpuric dermatoses.

Pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPD) represent a group of chronic skin disorders distinguished by small hemorrhagic spots and alterations in pigmentation. These conditions frequently resist standard therapies, such as topical corticosteroids and systemic drugs. This systematic review evaluates the safety and effectiveness of light and laser treatments for patients with various types of pigmented purpuric dermatoses. We searched the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases on 18 March 2025, in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. We examined studies that utilized light therapy and laser therap

Assessment of Vein Diameter and Body Surface Temperature after High-Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) on the Tarsal Joint in Healthy Horses.

The aim of the study was to assess the influence of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) on vein diameter and on body surface temperature changes in the tarsal joint area in a group of clinically healthy racehorses. The hypothesis of the study was that HILT increases vein diameter and body surface temperature in healthy tissue. The study involved 16 Thoroughbreds being subjected to ultrasonographic examination to assess changes of diameter of the cranial branch of the medial saphenous vein and thermographic examination to indicate temperature change of the dorsal surface of the tarsal joint, ju

A clinical review of phototherapy for psoriasis.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease. In the past several decades, phototherapy has been widely used to treat stable psoriatic lesions, including trunk, scalp, arms and legs, and partial nail psoriasis. A variety of light/lasers with different mechanisms of action have been developed for psoriasis including ultraviolet B (UVB), psoralen ultraviolet A (PUVA), pulsed dye laser (PDL), photodynamic therapy (PDT), intense pulsed light (IPL), light-emitting diodes (LED), and so on. Because light/laser each has specific therapeutic and adverse effects, it is important to adequately ch

[Indications for medical lasers in dermatology].

UNLABELLED: FOUR CATEGORIES OF LASERS ARE USED IN DERMATOLOGY: These are vascular, depigmentation, depilatory or resurfacing or vaporization lasers. Today, there are more potential or suggested indications than good methodological studies that confirm these indications. Nevertheless, there are indisputable indications for these lasers. VASCULAR LASERS: They are indicated in the treatment of capillary nevus in adults and children and, with pulsed dye lasers, infants can be treated within the first weeks of life. Another indication for vascular lasers is treatment of Stage II rosacea, i.e., at

Use of Intense Pulsed Light to Mitigate Meibomian Gland Dysfunction for Dry Eye Disease.

Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a common ocular condition that needs prompt diagnosis and careful treatment interventions. If left untreated, it can lead to numerous sight-threatening complications, including ulceration of the cornea, blepharitis, alterations of the tear film, conjunctivitis, and in severe cases, may lead to scarring, thinning, and even perforation of the cornea. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a non-laser high-intensity light source that has shown to play a valuable role in dry eye disease. Recent evidence from various research works has shown that IPL modifies the mechanism of meibom

Strategic selection of multi-parametric laser settings and clinical endpoints in dermatology: an engineering-to-clinical review.

Selective photothermolysis, which enables precise targeting of melanin, hemoglobin, and water, is the foundation for modern dermatologic laser therapy. This review bridges laser physics with clinical practice by organizing systems on the basis of spectral domain and indication: Q-switched and picosecond lasers for tattoos and lentigines; pulsed-dye and long-pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) lasers for vascular lesions; alexandrite and diode lasers for hair removal; and fractional ablative (CO₂, erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet [Er:YAG]) and non-ablative platforms for

Vascular Lesions.

Vascular lesions impact up to 5% of children and range in clinical impact from minor cutaneous aberrations to large masses impacting both form and function. Vascular lesions may be characterized as tumors or malformations. Establishing a clear diagnosis is imperative to understanding the natural history of a vascular lesion and developing a treatment plan. Medical, surgical, intralesional, and laser therapy are all effective and indicated on a case-by-case basis. There are a number of important surgical considerations for operative management of these lesions.

Hypertrophic Scar Outcomes in Fractional Laser Monotherapy Versus Fractional Laser-Assisted Topical Corticosteroid Delivery: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Topical corticosteroid delivery following fractional laser treatment is an effective means of treating hypertrophic scars. However, the relative efficacy of adjuvant corticosteroid treatment vs fractional laser mono-therapy alone is unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of fractional laser-assisted topical corticosteroid delivery with fractional laser monotherapy in the treatment of hyper-trophic scars. In this randomized, comparative, split-scar trial of 19 subjects, a borderline significant reduction in scar thickness was observed at 3-month follow-up in the l

The effectiveness of low-level laser therapy as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been demonstrated to have a biomodulatory effect on periodontal tissue, no systematic review has exclusively addressed its effectiveness as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment. This study aimed to evaluate whether an additional benefit exists for the application of LLLT compared with scaling and root planing (SRP) alone. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An extensive search was conducted in the Cochrane Library (Issue 8, 2015), PubMed (1997) and EMBASE (1947) before August 2015 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The

Does electrophysical agents work for cellulite treatment? a systematic review of clinical trials.

UNLABELLED: Cellulite, a perceived alteration in skin topography, is predominantly found in adipose tissue-rich body regions such as the hips, buttocks, thighs, and abdomen. Contrary to common belief, the etiology and pathophysiology of cellulite are not well-established or universally agreed upon. This lack of understanding about the actual etiology of cellulite directly influences the selection of suitable treatments that can address both the aesthetic and inflammatory aspects of the condition. Various treatment methods, including electrophysical agents like electric currents, radiofrequency

Advances in the application of photobiomodulation technology in spinal cord injury rehabilitation.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe central nervous system trauma that often leads to irreversible motor, sensory, and autonomic dysfunction, posing significant challenges to both patients' quality of life and the public healthcare system. Photobiomodulation (PBM), a non-invasive, low-risk physical therapy technique, activates intracellular photoacceptors with specific wavelengths of light (primarily near-infrared and red light). By regulating pathways involved in oxidative stress, inflammation, and neural repair, PBM offers a novel approach to SCI rehabilitation. This paper systematically re

The Mechanism of 540 nm Green Light in Promoting Salivary Secretion.

Background: Although low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a widely used noninvasive treatment because of photobiomodulation effects, its application for xerostomia remained uncertain. Tight junctions (TJs), mainly composed of claudins, occludin, and ZO family members, are crucial structures that determine material transport through paracellular pathway in salivary gland epithelial cells. This work aimed to investigate whether LLLT affected salivary secretion through epithelial TJs. Methods: Transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) measurement and paracellular permeability assay were applied to
