African degenerative leiomyopathy (ADL) is a rare incurable disorder seen in African children, predominantly in southern and south-eastern Africa. ADL presents as chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Management is traditionally conservative, with surgery restricted to the management of complications. We have placed Malone antegrade continence enema (MACE) stomas in the grossly dilated colon to vent accumulated gas and administer antegrade bowel enemas. Adequately good consumption of beta-carotene was observed in patients with duodenal ulcer and erosive gastritis after daily treatment with 18 mg of the carotinoid used as 0.1% oil solution: concentration of beta-carotene was increased approximately 3-fold in blood serum of these patients. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidant system have been studied in 28 patients with acute opisthorchiasis, 129 patients with chronic opisthorchiasis, 57 patients in the residual stage of the disease (6-12 months later) and 28 practically healthy subjects. Phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) are pivotal for soil phosphorus (P) cycling and sustainable agriculture. Coenzyme Q10 is an essential cofactor of the electron transport chain and is an antioxidant. We examined the effects of oral feeding with coenzyme Q10 in young animals on brain concentrations. Malondialdehyde determination in serum from schizophrenic patients before and after treatment with chlorpromazine showed that, after treatment, patients had significantly lower values than before. Malondialdehyde (MDA), a product of platelet lipid peroxidation, was measured in human platelet-rich plasma.
