BACKGROUND: Recent epidemiologic studies have estimated that the lifetime prevalence of low back pain (LBP) in children is approximately 50%, with almost 15% of children experiencing frequent or continual pain. A literature search revealed no published studies addressing conservative treatment of childhood LBP.
OBJECTIVE: To describe chiropractic management of LBP in patients between the ages of 4 and 18 years, as well as outcomes and factors associated with the outcomes.
METHODS: Prospective cohort study of consecutive pediatric patients with LBP seeing randomly selected chiropractors withi

In patients with dysphonia, an increased tension of the muscles of the neck as well as of the prelaryngeal muscles is well known to all phoniatrists. Usually the cause of this tension is only seen in pathological phonation or in a psychic base. In the present report it could be demonstrated that this tension causes itself a functional dysphonia. This tension is produced by a functional deficit of the upper cervical spine. Chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine can unlock the stiffness of the spine and normalize the voice within a few minutes.

BACKGROUND: The participation of clinicians in clinical research is necessary, but balancing research and clinical duties can be challenging. We explored chiropractors' experiences of participating in a clinical trial on spinal manipulation of the neck in primary health care (PHC).
METHODS: A qualitative design was adopted, underpinned by social interactionism. Five virtual focus group interviews were performed between August-November 2023, including 15 chiropractors, who were involved in a clinical trial in PHC. Thematic analysis was applied.
RESULTS: The interviewees were motivated to part

BACKGROUND Aggressive sacral hemangiomas are extremely rare benign tumors that can extend into the spinal canal, causing neurologic symptoms. Research on these tumors is limited given their rarity, and they have no agreed-upon treatment strategy. We report the first case of an aggressive sacral hemangioma responding well to conservative care, including manual therapies. CASE REPORT A 56-year-old Asian woman presented upon referral to a chiropractic office in Hong Kong with a 6-month exacerbation of chronic low back and lower extremity pain and weakness, requiring the use of a cane to walk. She

PURPOSE: Oncology patients often experience musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders because of common cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone-blocking medication, and surgery. These side effects include higher pain levels and a decreased range of motion, which can negatively impact activities of daily living. With a focus on neuromuscular health, chiropractic care, which uses low-force spinal manipulative therapy and myofascial techniques, may offer safe conservative treatment to help address these challenges.
METHODS: This single-arm retrospective observational study evalu

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the preferred treatment strategies of chiropractors in managing low back pain patients with prior lumbar fusions. There are several case reports which describe chiropractic care following surgical intervention, but there are no cohort or experimental studies published. Therefore, we sought to examine self-reported management approaches and practice patterns related to the management of patients with prior surgical lumbar fusion, among United States Veterans Affairs (VA) chiropractors.
METHODS: An electronic survey was administered nationwide to all chiropract

The present case study aimed to demonstrate the subtle effectiveness of 13-year chiropractic maintenance care (MC) in a patient with cervical radiculopathy associated with retrolisthesis. Retrolisthesis is the backward slippage of one vertebral body with respect to the subjacent vertebra. This slippage can lead to spinal nerve root compression or irritation (radiculopathy). A 44-year-old woman presented with relapsing episodes of pain in her neck radiating down her right arm and hand for 12 months. Neurological examination revealed sensory deficits in the right C5 dermatome. Cervical radiograp

UNLABELLED: National surveys suggest that millions of adults in the United States use complementary health approaches such as acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation, and herbal medicines to manage painful conditions such as arthritis, back pain, and fibromyalgia. Yet, national and per person out-of-pocket (OOP) costs attributable to this condition-specific use are unknown. In the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, the use of complementary health approaches, the reasons for this use, and the associated OOP costs were captured in a nationally representative sample of 5,467 adults. As exhibited throughout the medical literature over many decades, there is a lack of uniformity in the manner in which spine pain patients have historically qualified for and received manipulation under anesthesia (MUA). Also, for different professions that treat the same types of spinal conditions via the same means, fundamental MUA decision points vary within the published protocols of different professional associations. The more recent chiropractic literature communicates that the evidence to support the efficacy of MUA of the spine remains largely anecdotal. In addition, it has been repor

Chronic orchialgia can be the result of pathological processes of the scrotal contents or stem from non-intrascrotal structures. Successful pain management depends on identifying the source of localized or referred pain. This is a case report of a 39-year-old male sports coach who presented with low back pain, right orchialgia, and sciatica refractory to conservative management. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed disc protrusion at L3/L4 and L4/L5 levels. Positive outcomes in relieving back and testicular pain were obtained after a total of 30 chiropractic sessions over a 9-week period.

Many drugs and non-drug modalities are used to manage pain in horses, but evidence regarding efficacy and safety remains limited. This manuscript will first briefly review tried and tested techniques, e.g. the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, in the management of pain. Newer approaches to administering medications such as oral use of detomidine, which was previously only administered by injection, will also be discussed. Finally, introductory information on newer therapies, for example acupuncture and chiropractic manipulation, that the veterinarian may consider for the management
