Traumatic infantile unicystic ameloblastoma of posterior maxilla- A case report.

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) arising from a dentigerous cyst often leads to misinterpretation and undertreatment because of its higher recurrent potential, although it has a better prognosis than that of a solid or multicystic variant. This case is unique as UAs commonly develop in the posterior mandible and second decade of life. Here we report a case of 12-month-old infant with tumorous growth of the maxilla, making it difficult to diagnose because of varied clinical presentation. It also poses a treatment dilemma as the mural type of UA is notorious for recurring often requiring aggressive …

Trabecular Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma Involving the Maxilla: A Rare Case.

Trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) is a rare, benign, fibro-osseous lesion that predominantly affects children and adolescents. T … m computed tomography (CBCT) demonstrated a large, expansile, osteolytic lesion occupying the right maxillary sinus and adjacent structures, suggesting a fibro-osseous lesion. The enucleated specimen showed a highly cellular connective tissue stroma with irregular bony trabeculae rimmed by osteoblasts, numerous multinucleated giant cells, and basophilic c …

Neanderthal child's maxilla from Baume Moula-Guercy (Soyons, Ardèche, France).

This article provides an ontogenetically-based comparative description of the Guercy 3 partial child's maxilla with Rdm2 -RM1 and unerupted RI2 -RP4 from Baume Moula-Guercy (MIS 5e) and examines its affinities to European and Middle Eastern Middle-to-Late Pleistocene (≈MIS 14-MIS 1) Homo. Description of the Guercy 3 maxilla and dentition (7.0 year ± 0.9 month) is based on observations of original fossils, casts, CT scans, literature descriptions, and virtual reconstructions. Our ontogenetic sample comprises a Preneanderthal-Neanderthal group and a Homo sapiens group. These groups are subdivide…

Glandular Odontogenic Cyst of Anterior Maxilla - A Rare Case Report.

RATIONALE: Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare type of cyst of the jaws, which shares histological features with that of lateral periodontal cyst, botryoid cyst, radicular cyst with mucous metaplasia, or low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma, making it difficult to come to a definitive diagnosis. Not many cases of GOC have been reported in the literature. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 40-year-old male patient presented with pain in the upper right front tooth region. Mild extraoral swelling, obliterating the right nasolabial fold, was present. Tenderness on percussion was present in involved teeth.

[Tongue position assessment in patients before and after maxilla expansion].

The aim of this research is to increase the accuracy of determining the position of the tongue, the amount of space occupied by the tongue and space, free from tongue, increase of efficiency of diagnostics of dentofacial anomalies in patients based on CBCT analysis-the study of the skull conducted in transversal, sagittal and coronal planes. Clinical and x-ray examination and orthodontic treatment were carried out in 120 patients with anomalies of the dentition complex. Patients were divided into three groups. Group 1 - 30 patients aged 5 to 11 years. Group 2 - 50 patients aged 12 to 17 years.

Angulated Dental Implants in Posterior Maxilla FEA and Experimental Verification.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different implant angulations in posterior maxilla on stress distribution by finite element analysis and verify its results experimentally. METHODS: Two simplified models were prepared for an implant placed vertically and tilted 25° piercing the maxillary sinus. Geometric models' components were prepared by Autodesk Inventor then assembled in ANSYS for finite element analysis. The results of finite element analysis were verified against experimental trials results which were statistically analysed using student t-test (level of significance p < …

Zygomatic Implant Subjected to Immediate Loading for Atrophic Maxilla Rehabilitation.

As life expectancy increases, a larger number of elderly people require dental health care attention for implant-supported rehabilitation, with the aim of restoring the function and aesthetics of the oral cavity. Most of these patients have lost their teeth long time ago, causing a severe bone resorption and maxillary sinus pneumatization. Therefore, the current study aims to demonstrate, through the description of the clinical case, the treatment with zygomatic implants as an option for treating severely atrophic maxillas. In this clinical study, the patient presented, in the clinical and ima…

Treatment Planning the Edentulous Maxilla: Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines.

The 1st Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines (GCCG) in Implant Dentistry presented clinical guidelines for the rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla including the specific steps in the clinical workflow. The overall workflow includes patient selection, diagnostics, treatment planning, treatment procedure, complications, and maintenance. This manuscript focuses on the treatment planning aspect of the clinical guidelines outlined in the global consensus. Presenting all treatment options to each patient is extremely important to make sure the definitive treatment procedure is selected base…

Osteosarcoma of the Maxilla: Rare Contralateral Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common non-hematopoietic primary malignant bone tumour, accounting for around 19% of malignant bone tumours. It often occurs in the metaphyses of long bones, such as the distal femur and proximal tibia). OS of the jaw is rare, accounting for only about 6% of all OS cases, and the incidence of cervical lymph node metastasis is extremely low, with only a few case reports and small retrospective studies documented in the literature, and OS of the maxilla with contralateral lymph nodes metastasis is even rarer, with no relevant reports to date. In this paper, the pres…

Central Giant Cell Granuloma of Posterior Maxilla - A Case Report.

RATIONALE: Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a non-neoplastic proliferative lesion that clinically and radiologically mimics various lesions without any unique pathognomic features. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 14-year-old male patient reported with a chief complaint of swelling in the right upper back tooth region for four months. DIAGNOSIS: Incisional biopsy of the lesion shows numerous dilated and thin-walled blood vessels and focal areas of chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate beneath the epithelium suggestive of angiofibroma. TREATMENT: Surgical excision of the lesion along with curettage
