Postischemic fish oil treatment restores long-term retrograde memory and dendritic density: An analysis of the time window of efficacy.

We reported that fish oil (FO) prevented the loss of spatial memory caused by transient, global cerebral ischemia (TGCI), provided the treatment covered the first days prior to and after ischemia. Continuing these studies, trained rats were subjected to TGCI, and FO was administered for 10days, with a time window of efficacy (TWE) of 4, 8 or 12h post-ischemia. Retrograde memory was assessed up to 43days after TGCI. In another experiment, ischemic rats received FO with a 4- or 12-h TWE, and dendritic density was assessed in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. The brain lipid profile was evalua

Long-term anti-HBs antibody persistence and immune memory in children and adolescents who received routine childhood hepatitis B vaccination.

This paper presents data from two studies that evaluated 5-y and 10-y persistence of antibodies against hepatitis B (HBV) surface antigen (anti-HBs) and immune response to an HBV vaccine challenge in children and adolescents who had received three doses of a HBV vaccine in infancy as part of routine clinical practice [NCT00519649/NCT00984139]. Anti-HBs antibody concentrations ≥ 10 mIU/ml persisted in 83.3% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 78.5–87.5) and 78.3% (95% CI: 73.1–83.0) of subjects aged 7–8 y and 12–13 y, respectively 5–10 y after infant vaccination. One month postchallenge dose, 98.2%

Armodafinil improves wakefulness and long-term episodic memory in nCPAP-adherent patients with excessive sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea.

Residual excessive sleepiness (ES) and impaired cognition can occur despite effective and regular nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) therapy in some patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). A pooled analysis of two 12-week, randomized, double-blind studies in nCPAP-adherent patients with ES associated with OSA evaluated the effect of armodafinil on wakefulness and cognition. Three hundred and ninety-one patients received armodafinil (150 or 250 mg) and 260 patients received placebo once daily for 12 weeks. Efficacy assessments included the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MW

Virus-specific CD4+ and CD8+ cytotoxic T-cell responses and long-term T-cell memory in individuals vaccinated against polio.

The presence of poliovirus (PV)-specific CD4(+) T cells in individuals vaccinated against polio has been shown, but CD8(+) T-cell responses have not been described. Here, we functionally characterize the CD4(+) T-cell response and show for the first time that dendritic cells and macrophages can stimulate PV-specific CD8(+) T-cell responses in vitro from vaccinees. Both CD4(+) T and CD8(+) T cells secrete gamma interferon in response to PV antigens and are cytotoxic via the perforin/granzyme B-mediated pathway. Furthermore, the T cells also recognize and kill Sabin 1 vaccine-infected targets. T

Immune response at birth, long-term immune memory and 2 years follow-up after in-utero anti-HBV DNA immunization.

Infections occurring at the end of pregnancy, during birth or by breastfeeding are responsible for the high toll of death among first-week infants. In-utero DNA immunization has demonstrated the effectiveness in inducing specific immunity in newborns. A major contribution to infant immunization would be achieved if a vaccine proved able to be protective as early as at the birth, preventing the typical 'first-week infections'. To establish its potential for use in humans, in-utero DNA vaccination efficiency has to be evaluated for short- and long-term safety, protection at delivery, efficacy of

Longitudinal Pointwise Visual Field Prediction in Early-Stage Glaucoma Using Regression Models and Long Short-Term Memory: A Simulation Study.

BACKGROUND: Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy in which longitudinal visual field (VF) prediction is essential for timely clinical decision-making and preventing irreversible VF loss. However, accurate prediction remains challenging due to the noisy, high-dimensional nature of VF data and their complex longitudinal patterns. Capturing these patterns may require increasingly sophisticated prediction models, but greater model complexity can reduce interpretability. Therefore, prediction models need to capture temporal patterns while balancing interpretability and computational feasibilit

The long-term impact of adverse childhood experiences on episodic memory in mid- to late-life among US older adults.

OBJECTIVES: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, are associated with depression, substance use. While, prior research suggests ACEs influence memory, few studies have examined this relationship in a nationally representative sample of older US adults. This study explores associations between ACEs before 18 and mid- to late-life episodic memory. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of Health and Retirement Study data to assess ACEs and episodic memory in adults aged 51 and older. ACEs were measured as cumulative exposure to early adve

Vagus nerve stimulation enhances memory and long-term potentiation via the hippocampal NE/β-AR signaling pathway in pilocarpine rats.

BACKGROUND: Memory deficits in temporal lobe epilepsy severely impair quality of life, yet effective therapeutic strategies remain limited. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), an FDA approved treatment for drug resistant epilepsy, has demonstrated beneficial effects on cognition, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. VNS activates the locus coeruleus norepinephrine (NE) system, and hippocampal β-adrenergic receptors (β-AR) are critical for memory formation and synaptic plasticity. In this study, we used a pilocarpine (PILO) induced memory impaired rodent model to investigate whether VNS improv

Convolutional long short-term memory neural network integrated with classifier in classifying type of asynchrony breathing in mechanically ventilated patients.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Asynchronous breathing (AB) occurs when a mechanically ventilated patient's breathing does not align with the mechanical ventilator (MV). Asynchrony can negatively impact recovery and outcome, and/or hinder MV management. A model-based method to accurately classify different AB types could automate detection and have a measurable clinical impact. METHODS: This study presents an approach using a 1-dimensional (1D) of airway pressure data as an input to the convolutional long short-term memory neural network (CNN-LSTM) with a classifier method to classify AB types into

Fusion of transfer learning models for detection of alzheimer's disease using bidirectional long short-term memory with equilibrium optimization algorithm.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Recently, multiple investigations were completed on the involuntary analysis of Alzheimer’s disease using various models. The primary intention of most of these investigation works has depended on the recognition of AD from neuroimaging data. On the other hand, diagnosing symptoms promptly as much as possible is critical as disease-adapting drugs will be most effective if managed timely in the development of the disease, before the happening of permanent brain damage. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a non-invasive process, commonly assumed in hospitals to inspect mental abnormalities. It is one

Persistence of immunological memory as a potential correlate of long-term, vaccine-induced protection against Ebola virus disease in humans.

INTRODUCTION: In the absence of clinical efficacy data, vaccine protective effect can be extrapolated from animals to humans, using an immunological biomarker in humans that correlates with protection in animals, in a statistical approach called immunobridging. Such an immunobridging approach was previously used to infer the likely protective effect of the heterologous two-dose Ad26.ZEBOV, MVA-BN-Filo Ebola vaccine regimen. However, this immunobridging model does not provide information on how the persistence of the vaccine-induced immune response relates to durability of protection in humans.

Oral Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination induces long-term potentiation of memory immune response to Ovalbumin airway challenge in mice.

The Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is a potent immunomodulator. It was initially used by oral administration, but it is mostly used subcutaneously nowadays. This study shows that oral BCG vaccination modifies the immune response to a second non-related antigen (Ovalbumin) systemic immunization. Airway Ovalbumin challenge six months after the systemic intraperitoneal immunization resulted in a potent γδ+ T cell response in the lungs biased to IFN-γ and IL-17 production ex vivo and a mixed TH1, TH2, and TH17 T cells upon further stimulation with anti-CD3 mAb in vitro. Higher percentages of CD4+ T

The Effect of the Long-Term Calcipotriol/Betamethasone Dipropionate Local Therapy on Tissue Resident Memory Cells Markers in Psoriatic Eruptions.

BACKGROUND: The natural course of psoriasis is characterized by the long-term persistence of lesions and a predilection for relapse in the same area. It is caused by the inherence of TRM (tissue resident memory T cells) in apparently healthy skin. These cells are able to initiate an inflammatory cascade and induce relapse of the disease. These cells are characterized by high resistance to damaging factors and apoptosis, which determines their longevity. AIM: The aim of our study was to evaluate the presence of TRM in psoriatic plaques before, during and after 12 weeks of therapy in patients t

Chronic and acute adenosine A2A receptor blockade prevents long-term episodic memory disruption caused by acute cannabinoid CB1 receptor activation.

Cannabinoid-mediated memory impairment is a concern in cannabinoid-based therapies. Caffeine exacerbates cannabinoid CB1 receptor (CB1R)-induced memory deficits through an adenosine A1 receptor-mediated mechanism. We now evaluated how chronic or acute blockade of adenosine A2A receptors (A2ARs) affects long-term episodic memory deficits induced by a single injection of a selective CB1R agonist. Long-term episodic memory was assessed by the novel object recognition (NOR) test. Mice received an intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of the CB1/CB2 receptor agonist WIN 55,212-2 (1 mg/kg) immediately af

Acute ethanol exposure during late mouse neurodevelopment results in long-term deficits in memory retrieval, but not in social responsiveness.

OBJECTIVE: Prenatal alcohol exposure can result in neurological changes in affected individuals and may result in the emergence of a broad spectrum of neurobehavioral abnormalities termed fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). The effects of ethanol exposure during development are both time and dose dependent. Although many animal models of FASD use more chronic ethanol exposure, acute developmental alcohol exposure may also cause long-lasting neuronal changes. Our research employed behavioral measures to assess the effects of a single early postnatal ethanol intoxication event in mice. MAT

Distinct time effects of vaccination on long-term proliferative and IFN-gamma-producing T cell memory to smallpox in humans.

Residual immunity to the smallpox virus raises key questions about the persistence of long-term immune memory in the absence of antigen, since vaccination ended in 1980. IFN-gamma-producing effector-memory and proliferative memory T cells were compared in 79 vaccinees 13-25 yr after their last immunization and in unvaccinated individuals. Only 20% of the vaccinees displayed both immediate IFN-gamma-producing effector-memory responses and proliferative memory responses at 6 d; 52.5% showed only proliferative responses; and 27.5% had no detectable vaccinia-specific responses at all. Both respons

Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex impairs long-term retention of reencountered memories.

Repeated encounter with encoded memories is often a fundamental component of long-term learning processes, however, the role of repeated access to encoded memories in long-term consolidation is yet to be clarified. Here we investigated whether the long-term retention of newly acquired associative memories is affected if one of the central areas of the attentional control network is stimulated before or after repeated access to acquired information. Non-clinical participants (undergraduate students, N = 118) were exposed to an associative verbal learning task. Following the initial learning of

β1 integrin is critical for the maintenance of antigen-specific CD4 T cells in the bone marrow but not long-term immunological memory.

The long-term maintenance of memory CD4 T cells promotes protective immunity against future pathogen reinfection. As a site rich in survival cytokines, the bone marrow is proposed to be a critical niche for the survival of memory CD4 T cells. We demonstrate that endogenous, polyclonal Ag-specific CD4 T cells rapidly enter and are recovered long-term from the bone marrow following i.v. infection with Listeria monocytogenes. β(1) integrin-deficient CD4 T cells also populate the bone marrow early following an infection, but their numbers in this site rapidly decline. This decline was not caused b
